To mold our lives and build our hopes As time rolls on our glorious bright banner As thou wouldst have them be. Is noble and pure and freeg The lessons thou dost give us here And when we come back in memories' eye Will fit us well for life. To scenes that long are past, In later years we'll still love and bless thee We'11 look with joy on the days that we spent When in the great' world's strife. 'Neath the hues of the red and black, l qbealication To the Parents of the Senior Class, we---the seniors who have been given the honor of selecting the dedicatee---humbly and lovingly dedicate this memoir of the 1957-58 school year in Oxford Academy. It is with loving gratitude that we pay tribute to the parents, for without their kindness, care and love, we could not have attained this degree of success. gn og ppreciation Mr. Lynn Seymour The Oxford Academy staff and student body wish to express their feelings of respect, honor, and appreciation to you, Mr. Sey- mour, for the many years of your life spent in the interests of the youth in Oxford as either a member or president of the Board of Edu- cation since 1935. These years, devoted to problem-solving, repre- sent hours spent over and above the line of duty. Page 5 5 Ar T. ll Il 4, PL . r-:S I ! ng' ...il in' tration 1 4 ,8Q,.n, in an SJ s x -a , X Q MR. We had a normal grade school lifeg and before we realized where the time had gone, we had entered the best four years of our school life--high school. In the fall of 1954 we became freshmen and found ov what high school really was like. Our advisors were Miss Bur, and Mr. Bacher. We elected John Dutcher, president, Linda Mowry, vice -president: Louise Kelly, secretaryg and Gladys Whaley, treasurer. 'sfo Our project of the year was a Sadie Hawkins dance g-fl1,,j which was very successful. 0' 11,18 In our sophomore year we found out that high school .r was hard work, but Miss Bull and Mr. Souders, our new ad- visor, kept their watchful eyes on us. Again we electedlohn Dutcher, presidentg Linda Mowry, vice -president: Esther Holdridge. secretary: and Thelma Burke, treasurer. We sold subscriptions for the Oxford Review Times and tickets for the All Star Review. Both were financially success- ful. We began our junior year under Miss Bull and Mr. Sou- urer. In September, juniors were seen knocking at doors selling magazine subscriptions. We waited quite impatient- ly for our class rings which finally arrived in early April. Work on Stardust , the theme for our Junior Prom, had kept us quite busy all spring, It was one of the most success- ful proms in many years. A junior, Nancy Race and her es- cort, Alan Stork, were selected queen and king. In September of 1957 we were at last all together in the big study hall under the guidance of Miss Bull and Mr. Vogelgsang. Linda Mowry was elected presidentg Nancy Race, vice -presidentg Donna Tucker, secretaryg and Arlene Brig- ham, treasurer. Because of a flu epidemic , school was closed for two weeks in October. This made it necessary to postpone our senior play, Onions ln the Stew from November 15 to April 18. It was a great success and received good reviews. We selected Hope for the best, prepare for the worst as our class motto. The class colors were blue and whiteg our flower was the red rose. In the spring we received the edition of the BLACKHAWK in which were our pictures as seniors. This year we have welcomed to our class two new members, Linda Bradford and William Humphrey.
