I , E fa iAK ' ' ll! ID' Q' K 7 For the purpose of preserving the many memo- ries of our school life, the class of 1956 has edited the 1956 Blackhawk. Throughout our days at Ox- ford Academy and Central School we have shared many experiences, met new problems, and depend- ed on our mutual friendships to surmount each ob- stacle, Through the pictures and words in this book we hope we have made it possible for these most treas- ured memories to be relived many times, MRS, IDA GRIFFIN To Mrs. Griffin for her sincere and patient guidance throughoutoux high school days and her invaluable advice in our many activities, we dedicate the 1966 Blackhawk. A yearbook, regardless of size, takes endless effort to prepare, We, the class of 1956, feel espe- cially indebted to Mr. Tinker, the principal, the board of education, and the two yearbook advisors, Mrs, Ward and Mrs. Adams, for all they have done, The merchants have also supported this project in no small way by their subscriptions for advertising, May we say thank you to all of you, I, , N? 5, Z e V '- E:EE E any Z In making this yearbook, the staff depended on Mr. Paul Crawford for most of the photography work done. Mr. Crawford took the time from his Phar- macy to carry out this task for us, Therefore, we feel deeply obligated to him and sincerely thank him for his service, 74a z4Zm477Z4tefz Uzfafwl Hcademq and Heated! Deacon BARB and DALE ALIETTA and CARL ELIZABETH NANCYLEE I MARILYN LUCINDA MR, TEFFT and Mas, GRIFFIN Advisors 3 ezdddmafdfly In 1952, we entered our freshman year under the guiding hand of Mrs. Griffin and Mr. Kruse. At the beginning of the second semester, Mr. Weinstein took Mr. Kruse's place. We elected Eddie, president: Wayne, vice president: Midge, secretary: and Marilyn, treasurer. Our first project, a television show, went over with a bang. That year we acquired a good reputation for sponsoring class parties. As sophomores we discovered just how much work high school really was. Mrs. Griffin's watchful eye was again upon us with Mrs. Frasure as her assistant. Wayland was elected president: Midge, vice president Marilyn, secretary: and Julia, treasurer. Wayland was also elected secretary of the Student Association. That year we sponsored a minstrel show which unveiled all the hidden talent in our class. We started our junior year in '54 under the direction of Mrs. Griffin and Mr. Preston. Our class officers were president, Eddieg vice president, Daphne: secretary, Elizabeth: and treasurer, Julia. Jean Bliven was elected vice president and Wayne, treasurer of the Student Association. That fall juniors could be seen tramping the streets selling magazine subscriptions. Several members of the class had parts in a school play, Stephen Foster. This was a very busy year since work was started on the yearbook and we were working on the 'Gateway to Paradise' theme for our Junior Prom. The prom was a great success with a member of the junior class, Donna Bradt, and her excort, Dean Simpson being elected queen and king. We finally received our class rings. In the fall of '55, we were all together in the big study hall for our homeroom under the guidance of Mrs. Griffin. Again we had another new advisor, Mr. Tefft. Joe was elected by the student body as Student Council president. Jean Bliven was elected the treasurer of the Student Association. On November 17, we presented our senior play, January Thaw, which received very good reviews. The events which occurred during this, our last year, came in rapid succession. First, we selected our class motto, 'What we are to be, we are now becoming. Our class colors, baby blue and charcoal black: our class song, 'Moments to Remember, ' and our class flower, a pink carnation, were chosen. A group of ten senior girls formed an ensemble called the 'Seniorettes, and they sang for many organizations with great success. The rest of the year seemed to pass very quickly with many of the class working on the 'Blackhawk, ' which we received in May. The long-awaited day finally arrived on June 25, when forty-nine of us anxious seniors took our places on the stage for the commencement exercises. We were sorry the wonderful years were over, but we were ready to start out into the world and take our places in life ---- Elizabeth Diamond .4446 Wdlmd We, the Class of 1956, being of sound mind and body, bequeath David Adams' football uniform to Pete Ricky Clintsman. . .
