Class History OUR class entered into its freshman year in 51 with the feeling of great anticipation under the guidance of Mrs. Marble and Mr. Richmond. We elected Richard DeSalvo president, Patricia Castaldy vice-president, Ann McGowan secretary, and Elissa Sheets treasurer. During this year we sold Christmas wreaths and held a bake sale. This was the beginning of our class fund which we knew would be used in our activities during the four years of high school. In the fall of '52, we gathered together for our sophomore year under the guidance of the same advisors. Again we elected Richard DeSalvo president, and Elissa Sheets treasurer. New officers were Maurice Ingraham vice-president, and Betty Nichols secretary. This year we started to discuss the possibility of a senior trip, but we learned that the policy of the school had changed and that these trips were to be discontinued. Then we decided to have a yearbook. In May, we held a block dance on the blacktop behind the school which was very well-attended by grades 7-12. This dance.was part of a social schedule set up by the Student Council. We entered our junior year in '53 under the supervision of Mrs. Marble, Mrs. Nassar, Mr. Richmond and Mr. Batterman. We did it again! For the third time our class elected Richard DeSalvo president, and Elissa Sheets treasurer. Other officers elected were Donna Jones, vice-president, and Carolyn Wackford, secretary. The highlights of this year were selecting our class rings and planning and decorating for the Junior Prom. We finally chose our rings from the Balfour Company and the theme, Evening in Paris, for the prom. Much work was done on this prom, and we chose our queen from a selected group of girls in the junior and senior classes. Donna Jones, one of our juniors, was elected. The staff for the yearbook was chosen and some of the work was started. Our money in the treasury was in- creased by the sale of magazines, and we also sold tickets for a performance sponsored by the Rotary. At last, we accomplished a long-awaited dream when, in the fall of '54, the senior class was assigned to the big study hall where we were all together for the first time with Mr. Richmond, our homeroom teacher. We also had Mrs. Marble and Mrs. Ward to help us through this year. Again, and for the last time we chose Richard DeSalvo president, and Elissa Sheets treasurer. Donna Jones was re-elected vice-president, and Betty Nichols, secretary. This was to be another busy year, since early in October we started rehearsals for the senior play. Mother Is a Freshman, which was presented on November 18. Next we selected our commencement announcements from the Balfour Company. Then we chose our class motto, The Virture Lies in the Struggle, not the Prize, our class colors, blue and silver, and our class flower, a rose. The rnoney earned this year from a magician show and from the sale of our yearbook was to pay for the yearbook, our class banquet and graduation expenses. After about a year's work on the yearbook, members of the staffs, under the direction of Mrs. Ward, Mrs. Marble and Mr. Richmond, completed the 1955 edition of the Spotlight. And so, it is the end of our four years as a group. We received our diplomas on the night of June 27, but we will always hold memories of our busy times and happy moments spent together. 21 Florence Keating '55
