He went 50 yards for the Troians second score. Troions Smashed to a sudden stop by Cap- tain Jim Hasse is the Flint Beecher quarterback John Vargo 1521. He made no progress on the kickoff return after the big Troian hit him with a cross-body block. The Buc- caneers made little progress in bow- ing I8-O to the O.H.S. Troians. Driving hard for a first down is Gary Whitesell during the Lansing East- ern game. He had Lans- ing Eastern's Ron Robbe on his back, but he drove to get the first clown. Eastern won the game, 14-O. One of Owosso High's near successes in the Lansing Sexton game was this kick- off return by Gary White- sell. The sophomore half- back took a pass from Larry Gimm, a seldom used tac- tic, and was barely caught at midfield by an unidenti- fied Big Red. Lansing Sex- ton won the game, 25-0. In Action End Doug Butler lands hard after being spilled by an unidentified Lapeer Panther while another un- identified visitor drives for the loose ball. The fumble, one of four in the opening minutes of the game, stopped the first Troian drive, For the lack of an offense, being weakened by the flu epidemic and iniuries, the Troians suffered defeat at the hands of the Jackson Vikings. 12-0 score. For the first time in years the O.H.S. homecoming was a really happy event, for the Troians triumphed in the football game. They piled up a 34-I4 margin over Lapeer. In the picture to the right, Jeff Hudson's C131 31-yard touchdown dash got the Troians started on their way to vic- tory. ' 1 s W3 H2 l 0, ur' fl. Varsity Basketlaall Team Row I: L. to R. B. Mrs. Minnie Gebhart, Head of Department Student Guidance There are sixteen counselors. Each student is assigned a counselor for tour years according to the course of study he has chosen. For example, a looy on Agricultural course is assigned to an agriculture teacher, Mr. Hill or Mr. Dalgliesh, or a boy on Industrial Arts Course is assigned to Mr. Lee, head of this department. The counselors plan with the students their schedules, help them with tailures, give vocational information, and assist the student with any personal problems upon request. Mr. Lee helps Roger Wetzel, a senior, plan his schedule for the school year. 74'-in .ing left to right: Row:1 L. Stewart, R. Anderson, M. Weatherby, M. Gebhart, N. Parish, W. Virt, H. Like the true scientist in This field, the members of the class keep their eyes on the heavenly bodies, their goals in lite. ln order to attain these, each Senior must be prepared physically, emotionally, and mentally. The aim of the school is to offer him an opportunity to develop his abilities into capabilities, in order that he may someday con- tribute to the age. Whether' he becomes iust another falling star or a brilliant Nova is the challenge each must face. 4-Y?-W ,qfffl e MW 1 .fL .?'-'ls' 1 .QQ J? .fprlri Sen'or Coss of '58 AHIJAH L. ADAMS Radio Club, J. The different and often unpredictable reactions occuring in ex- periments compare relatively with underclass- men's actions upon each other. Students and chemistry alike are one continuous step toward advancement. Mistakes are corrected through experimenting. Just as the chemist experiments in different fields to find the true answer, so do the underclassmen experiment in different courses and activities before they become per- sonages of tomorrow. 4 Juniors left to right: Terry Matthews, Treasurer, Roger Ackels, Presi- dent, Sally Bremer, Secretary, Robert Davis, Vice-President L 1 K' if -A 5.4. Like the instruments that study the various phenomena, the students-with the assisting hand of the instructors-study lore. Like the instruments that compile data, the students gather from many sources information which they apply in many ways. They take in the knowledge presented to them in much the same manner that the instruments absorb the information of the conditions around them. Finally, as the weather balloon is able to rise to the heights, so can the students who effec- tively use the ideas gained by them. Q , Howard D. Foreign languages de- velop an understanding and apprecia- tion for the customs and cultures of other lands.
