Because of its perform- ances, it has won trophies at the Music Festival, the Holland Tulip Festival, and the State Fair. The band also takes a leading part in all city activities. Much credit for its success is due to Mr. Bremer and Mr. Clemens, the leaders. To meet this challenge, the Com- mercial Department offers courses in typing, shorthand, bookkeeping, office machines, business arithmetic, and Busi- ness English. Many students upon their graduation find employment in the vari- ous offices about town. AGRICULTURE DEPARTMENT Successful farm management de- mands that today's farmer must be awake to modern methods and machines. To aid the student in keep- ing abreast of the times, the agricul- tural department bases its courses on learning by doing, A four year course in farm shop gives him an opportu- nity to learn to repair farm machinery as well as to build needed equipment such as stock racks, etc. Testing seeds for planting and milk for butter fat content is another phase of practical work. Judging teams provide the opportunity to put into practice knowledge learned in the class room. During the fall months the girls participate in such sports as touch football, archery, etc, in the. winter bowling and basketball are the chief games, spring finds the girls on the diamond playing softball, These sports offer points by which the girls earn pins, guards, numerals, letters, and a necklace. Each year the outstanding Senior girl re- ceives a ring as an award.
