Honor Students Q Captain . . . Carl Colando, Owosso senior, has been chosen Captain of the All State Football Team for 1936. The speed and active- ness which he possessed involved him in every play on the field. His aggressiveness and high calibre playing made him one of the most outstanding players on the team as well as in the state. Four Leiter' Mau . . . Salutatorian . . . The Sam Gurske is the only four letter man on his team. His expert diagnosis of opposing plays, and his capability in protecting his territory against forward passes won him this honor. He is also considered one of the best defensive fullbacks of the valley. Valedicforian . . . The Valedictorian of the class of 1937 is Evelyn Herscher. She will be eighteen years old on the day she is graduated. Evelyn made an outstanding scholastic record for the four years she has been in high school. She served as Treasurer of the Senior class, was a member of the Library Club, and has entered various other activities. She is the second mem- ber of her family to be Valedictorian, her brother, Arnold, having won that honor in 1935. Evelyn hopes to enter the University of Val- paraiso where she plans to specialize in literature. The Salutatorian for the class of 1937 is Josephine Gladden, having the remarkable score of 3.718 out of a possible 4. In addition to winning this honor she was chosen to repre- sent the Shiawassee, D. A. R., as this year's most outstanding senior. Josephine is known for her dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism. During her four years in school she has participated in many of the school functions. Among other activities she was a member of the Library Club, and she took part in the Junior Play. She does not know definitely what she will take up, but she is planning to continue with her schooling and perhaps study journalism. recipients of the following awards had not been chosen when the Spic went to press: john Bell Cup, Y. W. C. A. Cup, University of Michigan Plaque, Teachers' Club Scholarship, Woman's Club Scholarship, and Michigan State Alumnae Scholarship. Z0
