1934 I was amused to hear two young men discussing love as a game, but they hastily introduced themselves as Elwin McEachen and Charles Chand- ler, the tennis champions. Next my roving eye lighted on three jocular men. They were the practicing attorneys, Hicks, Fletcher, and Rood. They practice golf. Barb Lyon, Maxine Sweetland, and Teressa Pollock are agents in Eu- rope for the Mae West Perfume Company. Bob Imhoff and Bob Soule tried to explain their non-rolling collar but- ton, which Jim Irby is financing. We heard that Chris Hornus is coach at California. Marguerite Hud- son told me, confidentially, that he paid her five dollars a game to stand down in front and yell. Alden Scott is a famous hockey player. He said he just couldn't stay 011' the ice. He has hired Vere Fisher to look after him. I left them to chat with Marjorie Alden. She has the problem column in a newspaper. She is sure it was Claude Alexander who asked if he should leave a scolding wife. Poor Claude! Paul Henzler is Speaker of the House now. He told me mournfully that it was diiiicult to keep Representative Walter from filibustering. My next encounter with some beauty specialists was embarrassing. Vivian Terry told me my hair was wrong, Evelyn Skutt advised about my eyebrows, Marie Lewis and Marjorie Thompson advised Pond's skin cream. Stanley Charchut, Edwin Moore, and Joe Yenik are professors who hope to retire by the time they are fifty. Normena Ockerman, Thelma Player, and Pauline Lenker run a bakery that makes husbands forget they married their wives for their cooking. Howard Jennings is a bit too cheerful for an undertaker, I think. Lucille Lingo and Lucille Sheldon run the Lucille Wig Shop. I was frankly puzzled by a woman with a divinely holy look. Could it be Norabel Northway? It was. She told me herself that with her revival meetings she had driven Aimee Semple McPherson out of California. Two of her choristers were with her, and I recognized them as Dorothy Huschen and Shirley Townsend. ' I also heard that Donald Miller and Irvin Hearth are installing a sprinkling system in the Sahara Desert. We received greetings from Virginia Schultz, Marie Schlaack, Helen Stahurski, Winifred Freeman, and Elizabeth Langdon who are in Iceland giving extensive courses in Keeping the Igloo Cozy. I was so worn out from talking to all these people that I could only mumble when Dorothy Sherman came tripping across the room. Hello, Dot , I murmured, what are you doing these days ? Why, I'm a nurse, she said with pride. What on earth is troubling you? You look a little peaked. Under Dorothy's timely administrations, I recovered and enjoyed im- mensely Mr. Cournyer's address, to which even that certain five per cent listened attentively. -Marjory Chase.

1934 Phyllis Miner is one of her models. Louis Shapiro and Jerome Lebowski run an exclusive clothing store on Fifth Avenue. R-everend Zimmerman and Beryl Harvey sent greetings from Africa, where they are missionaries. It pepped me up to meet a group of very satisfied looking people from the Colony of Suppressed Desires, financed by Patricia Warner. Every- one could choose his or her own position. Gerald Warden was the happiest mayor I ever saw, while Jim Rathbun was the smiling political boss. Carl Koerner enjoys being a cop and yelling, Yeah, you! at Rex Rose, the speed demon. Dayton Rainey has a floor show featuring Blanche Nacov- sky, Pauline Parr, Doris Little, and Corda Redmond. Tom Sundquist and Claude Tinklepaugh are novelty dancers. I had a chance to compliment Harold York and Ray Steggal on their fine book, Restraining the Modern Generation , which was published by the Slaughter Publishing Company. Two other authors, Charles DeVoe and John Kashmer, modestly admitted having written a book on psychic research. Frank Osmer and Clifford Parrish patented a cure for spring fever, but they both were married the following spring. Ira Cooper sells their tonic in his drug store, and Frederica Koerner is his assistant. fShe never advises young men to buy this cure.J Charles Gladden told me all about the laboratory that Ralph Beattie, Joe Woodbury, and he have together. Mildred Azelton and Myrtle Allen are expert bottle washers there. I felt guilty eating roast pork while Genevieve Orser, Virginia Slater, Ruth McClish, and Helen Walker, the vegetarians, were starving beside me. Mary Benson is in charge of a matrimonial bureau in Russia. And is she busy? Frances Green is equally rushed in the divore bureau. Lynn Lemunyon writes testimonials for Tangee Lipstick. Quote: The flavor is sure to please. A little fellow with a big cigar proved to be Elmer Wing, a noted radio announcer. He was cold shouldering Orville Goward, the soft voiced teller of bed-time stories. Next to them was Miles Trumble from W. J. R. with Hugo Saarup, a member of his band. Lois Eckerle and Anita Ebert are running a respectable boarding house to protect young secretaries. Jo Eggleston and Edith McLaughlin told me they enjoyed its position across from some bachelor apartments. These apartments are well looked after by the manager, Victor Rowell. Victor is proud of having Frederick Goeckel as a tenant, as Fred is the only banker of repute left in Detroit. I next ran into the three dancing Yeast Sisters whom I remembered as Katherine Cline, Julia Demuth, and Delphine Brockway. And maybe their manager, Lloyd Conklin, didn't look scared of those three girls, Pep , V im , and Vigor . Donald Lahman, Paul Chlebo, James 1McCaffery, and Gerald Mogg had a perfectly shocking trip to Mars by light rays. Marjorie Wait and Bernice Cooper taught a class for prospective farmers' wives until they married a couple of Boston merchants. I asked Betty Baker all about her interior decorating business. Chuck Basso is her business manager, and Robert Dann heads the artistic staff composed of Jane Copas, Dorothy Fulton, Fred Eckerle, and Giles Cook. 27

1934 SlIF,Nll1IDlQ GEULASS WIll,lli To all those whom these presents may concern, be it known that we, the Class of 1934, of the Owosso High School, County of Shiawassee, State of Foolishness, realizing that our days in the hall of learning are numbered and that our happy existence here is drawing to a close, in sound mind and body, under no threat or demand, do hereby make, publish, and declare this to be our last will and testament, in which we set forth our bequests in the following manner: To our tolerated and beloved successors, the class of '35, we do most unwillingly grant o-ur troubles, our trials, our joys, our abode, and our A's together with the well-earned title of Senior in the hope that they will not find it necessary to Hout their newly acquired powers by sitting on telephone poles and waving flags. To the oncoming Juniors, we leave our good stand-in with the faculty, and with the advice to pay their class dues, that they may ever be prosper- ous even in times of depression , To the next year's Sophomores, we bestow the privilege to guard the little freshmen and keep them forever from straying from the straight and narrow path, and to advise them against the cruel and wicked ways of this world. Well-known individual members of the class wish to bequeath the following: Julia Demuth, her typing speed and accuracy to Betty Harris. Frederick Goeckel, his keen business ability and the editor's chair to Arnold Herscher. Marjorie Chase, her A's and her French pronunciation to Bettie Lucas. Josephine Eggleston, her quiet ways and charming manners to Re- becca Lord. Willie Parker, his witty whims and pesky tricks to Chandler Pinney, if the promise is made not to disgrace the student-body. Jack Mero, his role of clown to Raymond Ballou, along with sage advice not to indulge in too many bananas during one performance. The spooners of the past year bequeath the nooks and corners of the building so long as they are not discovered and nooks tell no tales.
