Virginia Schmidt Betty Hampton Queen of 1953-54 Queen of 1954-55 Sophomore Candidate The crowning of the 1955 Basketball Queen was held December 7 in the Junior High Auditorium. Chris Brixey and Linda Spurgeon, the two flower girls led the procession. Entering next was Pat Brinkmann, Queen of 1951, on the arm of Dale Heidel. Next, the reigning queen, Virginia Schmidt with her escort Greg Holt preceded up the aisle. Queen Virginia wore the pearl crown. The first of the current candidates to enter was Muriel Haake, the Freshman Candidate, with her escort Jim Decker. Next, the Sophomore Candidate, Betty Hampton began her walk to the throne on the arm of Bill Knehans, The Junior Candidate, Karen Lenon, escorted by Bob Zeitzmann, now started her walk up the aisle. At last, the Senior Candidate, Lillian Heyer with her escort Ralph Helling entered. When Queen Pat and Queen Virginia reached the stage, both girls' escorts seated them on high throne-like chairs. The candidates took their places on each side of the throne. A fan-shaped silver background behind the throne was set off by the royal blue of the stage. The whole stage was studded with small silver stars, Against this beautiful background, Bob McCammon, Master of Ceremonies, echoed the name of the new queen, Betty Hampton, the Sophomore Candidate. Queen Betty was then crowned by her escort, Bill Knehans, After Queen Virginia relinquished her scepter to the new queen, she took her place on a chair next to the throne while Queen Betty took her place on the throne. So began the year-long reign of Betty Hampton, Basketball Queen of 1955. Compliments of MOTOR SERVICE COMPANY 8: RUFFNER CHEVROLET COMPANY
