Class Eisinrg A During the summer of l9h9 much thought was given about the undertaking of a great voyage. This voyage was to last four long and rigorous years, and was only for those with a deep and yearned for knowledge of the wonders of the world. Profits were to be divided each year according to the desire of each member and the efforts put forth by each individual. September--l9h9, the sails were furled and anchor raised by the crew of fifty-one UDutch enn under the captainage of Glenda Wacker, Glenn Brandtf first mate, and Shirley Rethemeyer treasurer. This expedition was under the sponsorship of Mr. Paul Brattstrom. During the year l9h9-1950 the first step of the voyage was completed. We had dropped anchor three times during the year for the initiation of the members, and to make a break from the daily duties required aboard. Very few casualties were reported in the capta1n's log. The year of 1950-1951 brought stronger winds, only to be met by strong- er sails and a tougher bunch of sailors. This year new worlds were revealed to the crew under the main head of world History. Neil Hohnstreet guided the ship to safe anchorage with the assistance of Bob Uffmann,f1rst mate, Charles Holt, recorder of the log, Edward,Koch, treasurer of the cargo, and Raymond Busen,sergeant-of-arms. A smaller crew was signed on this year, but it sur- vived to be one of the most lasting. Our sponsor for the year was Mr. Ed Koch Our third year brought still stronger trade winds with severe tidal waves called American History. This crew's captain was Shirley Decker, with Helen Hunke and Phyllis Piezuch first mate and treasurer. We sailed along rather smoothly until time came for our Junior play. With the help of Mr. Brown and Miss Wilson, we survived the rough waters of practice, and the hurricane of the first night on stage. We cllmaxed our voyage that year with our Junior- Senlor trip. The year 1952-1953 was approached with eagerness and some sadness. This year our ship was ably captained by Bob Uffmann with Shirley Nicks, Jackie Kottwitz and Patty Baxter standing by. Among the many exciting events were ordering announcements, selecting the Dutchman staff, receiving our class rings and pictures, measuring for our caps and gowns, and choosing our class motto, 'Our ship is at sea, where shall it anchor?' With the help of Mr, Spurgeon and Miss Schaeperkoetter we came safely to the completion of our voyage, that in reality is only the preparation for a much larger and longer ' Qflass will one.
