We shall fondly treasure our memories of him. PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE There is no gain but at a price . . As we come to the end of another school year it would be well for us all to consider this statement. If we have other years in school, it can serve as a guide for encouraging us to work harder. If we are graduating, it can be used as the first rung on the ladder of success. Since success in school and in life will always be measured by the price which we are willing to pay, we should consider carefully the goal which we are setting for our- selves and then meticulously pay the price which will be exacted. PROPHECY Oviedo, Florida June 6, 1977 Dear Coach, You may be surprised to hear from me after twenty years, but after our class reunion last week, I thought you might be interested in hearing what the members of your best graduating class have done for themselves. when I arrived at the party, the first people Isaw were Peggy Fleming and Kay Estes. They are both teachers at Oviedo's newest elementary school. QThere are three now, you know.j The next people I met were Donnie Malcolm and Norman Nicks--just as close friends as they ever were. Donnie is the owner and manager of the world's largest meat market, built in Goldenrod a few years ago. Norman, Florida's most famous insurance broker, also owns the largest used car lot in Miami and the surrounding territory. Luther Duda was there with his wife, Melanie, and all the little Dudas. Luther has excelled in the field of science and won a Pulitzer Prize for his poem, Ode to a Basketball. One of Oviedo's busiest barbers, Ronald King, was there. He specializes in all the cat haircuts and has renewed the teen-age fad of flattops, D.A. 's, and sideburns. Dr. Elena Tuhy from the University of Florida came with one of her many beaux. lt's amazing how she still looks so young. I didn't recognize Glenn Lee who is now head of the Department of Agriculture. He has gained so much weight and talks so much that he doesn't seem the same ole Glenn we knew. y Mrs. Ray Fore fwe knew her as Dawn Walkery was just X radiant. She's superbly happy just being a wife and mother. I ,I I . They are living in the suburbs of that great menopolis, , X Chuluota, Florida. I Of course Dan Beistel was there. He never misses a social A 'E affair. Dan is now the head pharmacist of one of Oviedo's E Q largest drug stores. F I B You would have been surprised to see Lt Col Ferdinand Q S. Duda of the U.S. Army. He has changed in so many ways. I-Ie has just returned from overseas duty in Germany and will next serve a period in the Pentagon. VN-. - J SEED , , sal, 0 Xi g ' e. It was none other One of America's ten best-dressed men was ther than our own Mr. William Lane, who has followed his love of the land. . . I He has one of the largest and most profitable farms in the sta e. d Freddie Wheaton right You remember Betty Stevenson? She marrie after graduation. Well, she is now the private secretary of the top executive in Orlando's guided missile plant. d M' kler has followed in your footsteps and has become Oviedo's As you know, Raymon i Coach Mikler. He certainly seems to be living up to the name. Gordon Horton owns a chain of filling stations g lax in his ultra -modern house ne Betty Beas ey V9 in Q is 5' I 4rf 5194. 43, 0 Bra As for myse You'l1 never guess w o t e l I She worked from the bottom up and is now top maui throu hout the South. He can now ar Oviedo and let the other boys do the work. h h editor of the OVIEDO TRIBUNE is Marvin Wrye was there in all his glory in a black tux with tapered ' ' wore trousers that fit smoothly into the top of his white suede boots. He a white silk cowboy shirt and a white suede ten-gallon hat. He really lives up to his title Cattle King of America. Y haven't forgotten that great basketball player, Tom Brown, ou have you? Tom helped win the Olympics for us last year and is now playing pro basketball. We certainly are proud of him. 1 tt could not be present. They got off to a good start by defeating Pierson 82-33. Having such a short schedule this year with intervals between games, and no tourna- ment to compete in, the team seemed to slow up, rather than progress. However, we came through the season with a 4-4 record. Win or lose, the girls always displayed those most important qualities---good sports- manship and teamwork. ESTES JACKSON FLEMING N BOA TWRIGHT DESHA Z0 STEV ENSON Kneeling: Raymond Mikler, Marvin Wrye, Jim Hill, Wallace Kelsey, Joseph Duda. Standing: Coach Paul Mikler, Ferdinand Duda, Tom Brown, Carl Fabry, Captain Luther Duda, Mike Duda, Manager Joe Battle. The 1957 Lions have a respectable 18-2 record as we go to press. After losing to Lyman in the County Christmas holiday tournament, we came back and avenged the defeat with two convincing wins. Our only other defeat was a 63-59 loss to Bishop Moore. We avenged this loss, too, by a narrow 41-40 victory over the powerful Hornets from Orlando. Prospects for another winning season looked dismal at the beginning of the season. A good team spirit, a willingness to practice, and determination have had much to do with making this one of our better teams. Basketball critics rate us one of the top teams in Central Florida. The starting five for most of the season have been Luther and Tom at forward, Carl at center and Mike and Ferdinand at guard. When Jim became eligible for the second semester he worked into the starting lineup. Ferdinand's great improvement in offense and defense has been one of our brightest spots. Mike's ability to break into the starting lineup has been another factor in our success. Carl is improving his shooting and rebounding with every game. Luther has successfully made the change from guard to forward. Tom has developed into a good rebounder and an accurate shooter. Jim is showing much improvement at the pivot Spot. Raymond and Wallace have played well as substitutes. Joseph and Marvin round out the varsity squad. Our high scores are Carl 321, Ferdinand 295, Tom 196, Luther 169, and Mike 110. We are looking forward to the group tournament which we hope to win in order to qualify for the state tournament in Gainesville. S X Y F. DUDA BROWN L. DUDA M. DUDA FABRY HILL MIKLER WRYE KELSEY J.
