I O To a man in our community who has won everyone's love and respect by his untiring efforts to alleviate suffering and to soothe the sick: who stands ever ready to answer a call - day or nightg who treats all with equal pa- tience and kindness: who administers to small in- juries of the students with the same care and interest that he gives to serious casesg who is the guardian of the health of the schoolg who is our friend as well as our benefactor, the class of '56 wishes to dedicate this annual. OUR HEARTFELT THANKS TO YOU DR. EDWARD W. STONER s. , ff w ' ,4 ickla Xipll A- . . h During this year we have experienced considerable growth in many areas of our total program. Our school plant has expanded to the benefit of all grade levels. The new elementary building, while providing modern quarters for our primary students, made possible the profitable remodeling and reassignment of the remaining facilities. The groups and departments enjoying the benefits of this growth include grades, homerooms, library, music, art, health, commercial, and administration. Our curriculum has also experienced a growth. The teaching staff, after partici- pating in a stimulating pre-school workshop, was enabled to provide enriched academic offerings. Also added were classes in art and in music. The many improvements here listed did notjust happen. They resulted from the expenditure of much time, effort, and money. They were made possible by our nation under God, our parents, and our teachers. The expense of these improvements was for but one purpose - YOUR GROWTH. We, the parents and teachers, have proudly observed your growth in body, knowl- edge, skills. appreciations, and understandings. You did your part. We, therefore, have been richly rewarded for our investment. We have faith that you, too, will be richly rewarded for your investment. f vi A X ' K 'Xfixflfl?f'N'11w.3?i3W9-Xi'f --ba?-Sri l 5 Q-Q J, -- K - Lk ,fw--ffl ' -A: ,i,Liig:.pi'W,, .-,AN 'f , 'Ty,v'3-1YxiZmZi'7?iQ,--i-14fq'fgw' , I K .- 41 My. f -1- f-ze,-ff .zz--.?.i--Qs' V. QE,-, i SZ! 1 Hnuuwil H -71 I nu nl HOW TO KEEP FROM GROWING OLD . Always race the locomotives to crossings. Engineers like it: it breaks the monotony of their jobs. , Always pass the car ahead on curves or on a hill, it gives the fellow meeting you such a thrill. . Always hold the middle of the road, You're entitled to half, so select the part you want. , Always speed: it shows them you're a man of pep even though traffic is heavy, . Always shove on your brakes when skidding. It makes the job more artistic. . Always drive close to pedestrians in sloppy weather. The success of our team, which has a record of seven wins and three losses Qthose by a two point marginj, may be contributed to their hard work, excellent teamwork, good sportsmanship, and a superior team spirit. There is no star on the team as they play as a unit and not for self -- each player performing her assigned job well. The 1956 Lions won their fourth consecutive Central Florida Conference basketball championship by defeating arch rival Lyman 61-42 in the tourna- ment finals. In other tournament games we breezed by Mt, Dora, and after a very close first half, we convincingly beat Bishop Moore. Our starting five are Hubert and Jim at forward: Keith at centerg and Captain Ray and Luther at guard. Ferdinand was a starter earlier in the season and has played every game. Carl and Andy played well as substitutes, Sickness was more prevalent than ever before. Our record as we go to press is 12-5. Two of these losses were to powerful Boone and Edgewater High Schools of Orlando. In the Boone game we led for nearly a half. Against Edgewater it was late in the third quarter before we fell behind. Our team has improved with each game and now ranks among the top ten in this section of the state. Keith C3213 and Hubert 13223 are our leading scorers. Besides being our leading pointmakers, Keith and Hubert have developed into strong rebounders. Ray is our playmaker. Jim has developed into a steady performer. Luther and Ferdinand are capable guards. My .fm Q, f vw 2 T XQ,,g,k E QU, E Q '. N:,,,g.,,g 3:1 A N' , gffff 5 X Q. fx x 5 Q .'. .. ,, W H 2' V 3 px is . . V , . H f XX 4. is vb .Y , 'R 4? Early in the season Lyman defeated us, but since then, we have beaten them. Our record is six wins and one loss. Prospects for another winning season seem bright. The pitching department looks suong with three dependable pitchers: Hubert, Lorne, and Marvin. The infield will be built around two veterans: Keith at first base and Hubert at short stop. Second and third base should be a tight race between Wallace, Joseph, Tom, and Andy. In the outfield, it looks as if Ferdinand, Luther, and Myron have the edge over other contenders. Ray is planning to handle the catching for us. When Hubert and Lorne are not pitching, they will play other positions. 9 X NX X. - x 01: .1 . ., -Q-Q fi ii? 56 X -.
