PRINCIPAUS MESSAGE As another school year draws to a close we look back in an attempt to measure our progress. We find that in some areas om' gains are great--in others small. Oncloser examination perhaps we see that our successes are in proportion to our efforts. If this we see then. we truly have learned a valuable lesson. XXX ADMINISTRATION PROF. STEWART GATCHEL MRS. Prophet, if SUCCESS It's doing your job the best you can, And being fair to your fellow men, It's making money, but holding friends, And staying true to your aims and ends, It's figuring how and learning why, And looking forward and thinking high, And dreaming a little and doing muchg It's keeping always in closest touch With what is finest in word and deed, It's being thorough yet making speed, It's daring blithely the field of chance, While making labor a brave romance, It's going onward despite defeat , ,fl 'w 'mu ffwozwff fy? And fighting staunchly, but keeping sweet, It's being clean, and it's playing fair, It's laughing lightly at Dame Despairg It's struggling on with the will to win, But taking loss with a cheerful gring It's sharing sorrow, and work, and mirth And making better this good old earth, It's serving, striving through strain and stress, It's doing your noblest--that's success. - - - -- -Contributed. ij' LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT I, Andrew Aulin, will and bequeath my experience in band to Wallace Kelsey, my ability to skip school to Keith Malcolm and my office work to Donnie Malcolm. As we go to press the unbeaten 1955 Lion quintet is riding on the crest of an amazing- fourteen- game winning streak. We opened the season with an impressive victory over a good Pierson team. Central Florida fans were shocked when our Lions upset the Edgewater Eagles from Orlando on their own floor. This was perhaps the greatest basketball victory in our school's history. Oviedo won two games from the always dangerous Lyman Grayhounds, the second game by a convincing 65-54 score. The latest victory was over a highly rated Titus- ville Terrior team by a 59-46 score. Basketball critics rate Oviedo as a strong favorite to win the CFC and group tournaments. Keith at center, and Freddie and Ray at guard. Johnny is our leading scorer with 290 points. Freddie is our playmaker and with Johnny forms a great re- bounding pair. Keith is our second highest scorer. Hubert and Ray are steady performers at their forward and guard positions. Ferdinand and Jim have been our dependable substitutes. x fy 'Q-'f - xi Our starting line up consists of the following: Johnny and Hubert at forward. . 6. A. 'Q V oo 'Y . The 1955 Lion baseball team prospects look bright. Johnny should be one of the lead- ing catchers in the conference. Captain Lorne Mathers will be one of the circuit's leading pitchers. Keith has a bright future at first base. Charles will be a very depen- dable fielder and a dangerous batter. Freddie, our long ball hitter, will either patrol center field or shortstop, We expect Ray to continue holding down third base. Much is expected from Marvin Wrye's control pitching. The other positions will be filled by Ferdinand, Hubert, Andy, Luther, Raymond, Myron, and Jim. Competition should be very keen for every position. We expect to be one of the leading contenders for the conference crown.
