Class Prophecy June 3 , 1954 Dear Georgene, Can you imagine, ten years ago today we were graduated from O,H,S, It seems as though it were yesterday, We really had some good times there. GTWTA -N How are you, Don, and little Don, Jr, getting along? Are you still nursing in the morning, on week days, at the , ,M 45 hospital in Atlanta? f I .... .. You will never guess who came to see me yesterdayl Dot Miller and her husband, who is now an admiral in the navy, Jim was home on leave from California where he is now stationed, I asked Dot how she liked the navy life and she said she liked it fine. George Domansky, as you remember, used to work at Spelzhousen's gro- cery SIOI8 in Goldenrod, well, no more little stuff for George, He is now one of the biggest grocers in the state. George and his wife came in the office where I work the other day to see my hos, and they were sporting a pretty baby blue, 1964, Cadillac, lreceived a letter from Martha Hardy: she said that her next picture will be 'Feudin' Mountain Boys, She is the highest paid 'hillbilly star in Holly- wood. Her husband is the producer of the picture, Q My mother was visiting me not too long ago, and she I N said that Bob Shaffer is now the principal of Oviedo High ' ixlm School, and Mr. Gatchel is his secretary. Bob is really boosting the sports in the schoolg they now have a football F ' team, Bob and his wife have made their home in Oviedo A and they have twin boys, Ruth Cullum writes to me quite often, and in her last letter she said that she liked her job as a stewardess. She said that she met many interesting people while she worked, but she has decided to quit and get married, She plans to marry a very nice boy who is in the Marines. He is one of the inter- esting persons she met while she held the job of being a stewardess, P You remember Richard Wrye, don't your Surely you dol ' You couldn't forget him, He was the handsome one in our class He is now a very successful businessman He is the owner of Wrye Junking Co. He has Junk yards scattered all over the United States. K XJ f'X I saw Ann Leinhart's mother not too long ago, and she said that Ann would be home on a thirty day leave the seventh of this month. I guess you know that l fax Ann is now a Lt, Colonel in the Woman's Marine Corps, Just think, she has achieved this in the last nine and one half years, Roy Biestel is the best known mechanic in Orlando, He also has the largest and most modern garage there, He has garages in other large cities in Florida, He opened E Q the first modem garage in Oviedo. It has really helped the progress of the town, Thelma Rambo and her husband left yesterday to go up north where they will spend the summer months at their home there. They will be back down here sometime in November to spend the rest of the time at their winter home in Oviedo, Thelma is one of the best seamstresses in Seminole county, She has her own shop in Sanford, Have you seen or heard from Harvey Joe lately? I saw him about two weeks ago, and he said he really did enjoy his job as coach at Oviedo High, I guess you know his boys' basketball team was state champion this year. He and his wife are building a new home in Lake Charm Park, he says it brings back old memories, I got a ticket for parking too long on Orange Ave, last Friday, so when I went to pay the fine, guess whom I should see all dressed up in a State Patrol- man's outfit: Ivan Jakubcin. Can you imagine? But he has not given up hot rods by any means. He races every Friday night at Rocket Speedway in Orlando, I was down town shopping the other day when I heard 45- someone call my name, I turned around and whom do you W think I saw? Mary Smithson tor should I say Meekj, She Cy said that she and Billy have just built themselves a new home in Oviedo, and bought a new car. It looks as though 4 Billy is making good at growing celery. 0 SEED You wanted to know in your last letter to me how I liked my job. I like it fineg you know, I always did want to be a private secretary, My boss is now giving me the rush. I think I will take him up on his proposal, I can just see the ring nowg it will probably have a diamond as big as a grapefruit in it, and diamonds have always been my weakness, Oh! I think I hear him coming up the walk now. I'd better close, so I won't keep him waiting, Write to me soon Your old classmate, 9 Q Q ' am!-Q! g ulf fx 4 j Shirley Jones - 1 sw X .. as I NR gf 5 I 3 . ft . Guards were Ioan Brown, Leona Hart, Nadine Bostick, Pat Walker, Kay Estes. Nancy Myers, Nancy Miller, and Dorothy Simmons. The Oviedo cagers wi.n another basketball game, but Oviedo's winning isn't anything newg after all they have won twenty-tvvo straight conference games in the last two years. Our 1954 team lost the opening game to Crescent City by a single point in an overtime game. The strong Edgewater Eagles beat us in a very close game three days later. Since then our boys have hit their snide by winning twelve straight games. This record places Oviedo in the favored spot in the conference tournament. We hope to successfully defend the conference championship this week. Johnny Jones is our leading scorer on this offensive-minded teamg but all the squad is to be commended for its fine playing and good sportsmanship. The following boys make up our team: Captain Joe Slayton, Billy Meek, Johnny Iones, Fred Wheaton, Ray Fore, Hubert Priest, Lorne Mathers, Jerry Harris, Myron Willis, Jerden Boatwright, Richard Wrye, Bobby Shaffer, Ferdinand Duda, Luther Duda, Mar- vin Wrye, Bobby Standifer, and Raymond Mikler. Due to the graduation of Walter Duda, our ace pitcher last year, we are hard pressed for a pitcher this year. We have some fine young prospects coming up, who will probably play some this yearg and in the future will make up a good ball club. These three positions in the infield, first base, shortstop, and catcher, are sure bets ro be taken by Keith Malcolm, Bill Meek, and Johnny Jones. The remaining team will probably consist of these six meng Fred Wheaton, Roy Beistel, Charles Mentzer, Ray Fore, Richard Wrye, and Lorne Mathers. ln there trying to beat these probable starters out of their positions will be the following: Myron Willis, Hubert Priest, Andrew Aulin, Harvey Joe Slayton, Donnie Malcolm, Bobby Standifer, Marvin Wrye, Luther Duda, Ferdinand Duda, Raymond Mikler, John Selph, and Ierden Boatwright. f ,f I 1 4 '29 xx 4 I 9. l FA VORI TES Most Likely to Succeed MARTHA JEAN HARDY BOB SHAFFER Most Beautiful Girl and Most Handsome Boy GEORGENE PARKER ROY BEISTEL Most Popular Boy and Girl HARVEY JOE SLA YTON DOROTHY MILLER Most Athletic Girl and Boy SHIRLEY JONES BILLY MEEK ,.4.Q,,,1. Yes, there is one thing we're certain of. Every member of this year's class is leaving with a great ambition to become estab- lished: to get to college -- if college is planned. To get that first Job.. to get going . For some it may take years...others months, depending up on the field of endeavor and the additional study necessary. In any case, time will pass more quickly than we ever imagined it could. For some, progress will be hastened by insurance. Others will probably benefit later by well laid plans of their families...plans which in some cases may have been worked out in collaboration with New York Life. For more than Z7 years it has been my privilege to serve as life insurance counselor to men and women of Sanford and Seminole County. If you would like to know of the ways life insurance can help you meet adult responsibilities...ways it can help you in later life, I will be indeed happy to talk with you. UIWJWV 3577!
