A Parent-Teachers' Association was organized about 1924. It has been a great asset to the school, orgar-izing our first lunch program and purchasing our first movie machine. It has provided play ground equipment, health clinics, stage furniture, and has done many other valuable things, not the least of which have been the excellent programs provided for the meetings. Oviedo citizens are proud of their school, its history, its accomplishments, and its promising future. Annis C. Thompson uf : A Teacher in Oviedo High School :ff ,551 for thirty three years. Leona: Sorry I'm late. I'll be dressed in a moment. Johnnie: No hurry now, I'll have to go home and shave again. Corporal Duda: Now, Private, if you stood with your back to the north, and your face to the south, what would be on your left hand? Private Wheaton: Fingers. Bo: This party is awful dull. I think I'll go home. Mickey: Fine old boy, that will sure help, Shirley: Coach, what do you call a man who drives a truck? Coach: That all depends on how close he comes to me. Cornelia: Whenever I'm in the dumps, I get myself a new hat. Georgene: I was wondering where you got them. Lost: A five dollar bill by a working woman tied in a knot. Lost: Green fountain pen by a man half full of ink.

In the early '90's, the building now occupied by the colored school was built south of town in the neighborhood of the Pat Brown residence today, but on the opposite side of the road, and a little farther south. This was a two room good frame building, and its first teacher was Miss Jessie Brown. In the summer of 1899, this building was moved to a new site east ofB. G. Smith's residence and was improved by the addition of a third room. Some of the oldsters here remember that Mr. John McCulley had the contract to move with it for the sum of 3100. A few years later this building was again lag! BPM moved to the present site of Oviedo High School. It is interesting j tlgff,-1.21, U t to recall the names of many of the teachers who labored in this building. They are the following: Miss Proctor, Miss Steinmeyer, the grandmother of warren McCall, Junior, who is a senior in O. H. S. this year, Miss Ruth Bumby, Mrs. Beyer, our own T. W. Lawton, Miss Ethel Delaney, Miss Rinalden, Mr. Dollins, Miss Annie Hinkle, Mr. M. J. Okerlund, Mr, Hatch, Mrs. Nita Crawford, Miss George Lee, Miss Julia Lee. In 1922, this building again was moved to the colored section of town, and made into a high school for progressive colored citizens. ln 1922, also our present brick building of four rooms and auditorium was constructed. It has had five more rooms added since, as well as an agricultural building, a gymnasium, a lunch room, and a shop. The whole splant houses a fully accredited high school today, as well as the elementary grades. The campus is spacious and contains excellent tennis courts, X baseball field, andample playgrounds for the elementary children. Mr. W. A. Teague, our popular and efficient principal, has served in his present capacity for nine years. He was preceeded by several excellent principals, who laid the ground work for a good high school. Notable among ,M these was, H. J. Laney, who was first to have the school accre- dited. He was followed by ten years of faithful and efficient work by Mr. R. F. Cooper, now one of the county school trustees. 1--li I ' 1 4. Our students make good in college, and at one time, Oviedo had 4- A' six students in college on scholarships won by competitive ex- Vmffvf H aminations. Some of the finest citizens of the town Of Oviedo, the county, he state, and the nation have been through Oviedo High School. Some of them are going to deserve a place in WHO'S WHO IN AMERICA.

For ourselves and for all the alumni of the school we wish to express our very deep and heartfelt appreciation to Mrs. Annis C. Thompson for the unselfish service to us which she has rendered for the last thirty four years. Her influence will reach out into the coming years' in a never ending flow through the students whose lives she has helped to mold. We hope that her years of retirement will be many and that they will be filled with the happiness and rest that she well deserves. ZX We Salute Gif We wish to pay tribute to our retiring superintendent, Mr. T. W. Lawton, whose predominating interest for thir- ty five years has been the schools of Seminole County. Under his supervision we have kept abreast with progress in the educational world so that we are better prepared to meed the problems we face after graduation. The personal contacts we have had with him have made us able to call him friend as well as benefactor. May the pleasures of his retirement equal the service he has given to the schools.
