Salma! History I fx The institution now known as the Oviedo High School has an in- ' - school was organized with the children of three families, five h Lees, and one Bobbie Shafter. 'st fl iw 1- . g teresting history reaching back to 1876, when the first public n if ::!l ii if lang' The two Lees were Theo and Wiley. Mr. Theo Lee is living here today, and tells many interesting details of Oviedo's early school days. This first school was located on the old Orlando road near Old Bear Gulley, and was taught by Miss Julia Galden. The Nixes moved , and the school was closed, but was soon re-opened in the home of Miss Galden's mother, about the location now known as Clonls Quarters. A third school was soon opened in an abandon ed double-pen log house located in front of what is now Dick Mitchell's residence. This was taught by a lady of forgotten name from Georgia. The next year Miss Myrtle Harris from Sanford taught, but the next, not enough pupils were available for a school. Mr. Lee and his brother were then boarded down at Ft. Christmas for the next two years, so they might attend school there, Christmas being the nearest school to Oveido. This was in 1887. The third school house in Oviedo was built at Brack Pond on or near the site of the present handsome residence of Mr.Ted Estes. Later the building was , .. . changed into a residence, and it has recently been greatly enlarged - ' ' and emproved into an attractive residence, occupied by Mr. Thos. s 15' Q E Daniell, Sr. ' .5 This school on Brack Pond was taught by Mr. Wallace Somerville, l and he was followed by Mr. Jim Caruthers, who.
