The science department here at Ovid-Elsie has a wide range of study, For those interested in their relationship with the environment there is Environ- mental Science, And there is Earth Science available for those interested in the physi- cal world around us, Biology is for students interested in the origin, physical charac- teristics and life habits of plants and animals. The more difficult classes include Chem- istry and Physics, Some of the more challenging classes at Ovid-Elsie are the math related courses, Rating with the Pythagorean theorum is geometry. Mrs. -Marie Holem Home Ecology Home Ec classes help prepare young people for the responsibilities of the home. Students usually start out with Home Ec I and, II. These classes are based mainly on consumer rights, good grooming habits, food, nutrition, child growth, and the basics of cooking and sewing. If students wish, they can take more advanced courses which concentrate on a certain area of Home Economics. These include: Home Furnishings, Foods and Nutrition, Child Development, Clothing and Textiles, and Home and Family Living. iComprendes Expanol? Mr. Donald Barlow Spanish is the only language taught at Ovid-Elsie. Students learn to read, write, speak, and understand the language by means of tapes, records, textbooks, movies, filmstrips, and speeches. Spanish I gives students the basic ability to read, write speak, and understand the language. Spanish II pro- vides further experience in using the language. And Spanish III is directed at perfecting a students abilities in :understanding and speaking the Spanish language. 119
