Volleyball Serves First Season kneeling - left to right: lulie Selfridge, lane Taylor, Linda Horton, Sue Parmenter, Emily Horton, Kathy Kenney, Cheryl Kirnovic, lane Somers, Lena Schultz. standing: Barbara An- derson - Coach, Deb Miller, jane Kirby, Sue Mitchell, Sandy Webster, Deb Ballantine, Cindy Francis, jill Horn, Sue Bracey, Brenda Miller, Anita Huntoon, Terry Brancroft. The girls volleyball team, in their first year of competition, had a case of first year jitters. Their season wasn't as successful as they hoped it would be, but it was a year of learning and practicing the game of volleyball. There was both a l.V. and Varsity team, having records of 1-4 and 0-5 respectively. The girls who played on the Varsity team received letters if they had played in one-half of all the games played. The l.V. team players were rewarded also with certificates for their play. A highlight of the season was Brenda Miller re- ceiving All-Conference Honorable Mention. The volleyball team will besback again next year, looking forward to a second year of competition. l 103

That Championship Feeling The 1973-74 girl's Varsity Basketball team is character- ized by success and a little history making. It was the first time in history at O-E that the girls team won the Mid-Michigan B League Basketball Tournament held at O-E. The Varsity team compiled a 7-0 league record and a 13-4 record overall. The team displayed all of the enthusiasm of a championship team and they were awarded the MMB crown. They won the first round of the Michigan State Basketball Tournament at Chesan- ing by defeating Frankenmuth. They lost in the second round to a strong St. johns squad. The j.V. team compiled a 5-5 league record and a 5-9 record overall. The team, though young and inexperi- enced, showed a promising future for next year's bas- ketball season. All in all there is a very bright outlook for girl's sports. 102
