CLASS HISTORY As we Class of 1954 retrace our steps we remember our f1rst days as freshmen we began classes 1n September 1950 wxth the roll call numbering forty Our class adv1sors were Mxss Helen Kloph and Mrs Sarah Frankhn The offtcers elected were Jxm Covert Prestdent Ang1eM1l1as V1ce Presxdent Ed McGu1re Secretary and Gale Excell Treasurer Our representauves to student counc1l were Mary Sweet and Harold Larsen We were very proud to be the f1rst class to end our freshman year wtth a consxderable sum of money due to a very successful St Pat s Dance We also sold pop at baseball games and collected class dues We were ftnally on our wayll When we became sophomores our number dimmtshed to th1rty but xt was sttll necessary to have two homerooms wlth Mr Fred Hoppe in 210 and Mrs Sarah Franklm in 211 as advlsors Our offxcers were Ed McGu1re Prestdent Ang1e lvhllas Vtce Prestdent Bev OConnell Secretary and Mary Therluldsen Treasurer We had Gale Excell and J1m Covert represent us 1n student councll Our money ra1sing projects were two bake sales a Leap Year Dance and class dues to reach our goal of S300 ln September 1952 we moved our forces to 210 when we became jumors wlth Mr Hoppe as our adv1sor .Tumor offlcers were Gale Excell Pres1dent Angle Mlllas Vlce Prestdent Bev OConnell Secretary and Ed McGu1re Treasurer wxth Sonny Halsell and Mary Therk1ldsen as our student councll representattves W1th a class of twenty six our ftrst project was sellmg Chrxstmas cards whxch proved very successful. CLASS PROPHECY It IS the year of 1964 and as I am strollmg down Broadway I suddenly runember that this is the night for Ovrd s Class of 1954 reunion. I hurry down the street turn left and step mside the Waldorf Astoria the prearranged sue of the meeting. As I am ushered tn I notice a tall dark handsome fellow lookmg very lmportant and I mqture as to h1s tdamty It seems that this is Eugme Wrlson my old and distmguished friend back at Ovld His overvdtelmxng gift of gab has gamed him hxs position as Master of Ceremonies here at the Waldorf I place myself at a secluded table behind a palm tree and proceed to watch the entrance of all my classmates Gale Excell the first to enter looks stunmng ln her new sarong At school she had been so qtuet and refuted it s shocking to see her go to the dogs You can plck up her act tn any tavern tn the New York area There s Sylvta Conkling always the runt of the class But wait she s grown up and that sign on her back says Fat Lady Ringhng Bros Don t look now but that was B111 Wiswell who Just came m I understand that he IS the proud owner of a well known Mrlwaukee Co That gentlemanly young man who just walked ln IS none other than Sandford Covert Always the ladxes man rn school he s contmued to tnterest them by selling lingerte Here comes mystic excxting and starthng The Great McGuire the fortune teller at Coney Island followed by h1s frtmd Barbara Hawklns whose racket seems to be a Lonely Hearts Club There s Sonny Halsell wrth a smart remark for everyone to hear His love for the North encouraged h1m to move to Alaska where he is happxly engaged in a dogsled agency what have we here? A ptous looking fellow xf I ever saw one. Oh it s Bob Gnswold prac ucmg h1s latest sermon You knew he became a missionary to Indo Gllna didn t you? I hear some talk going around that Ovid has a new subway system. Shirley Carson was named head conductor Here s another news bit about Ovid You may vaguely recall the burnmg of the Franklm House Well Jrm Covert couldn t stand to see the place run down so he bought tt and flxed ll up pretty swanky It dtdn t do any good though it burned down again Now there s a ptcture of health Bob Chatelle popularly called Shapeless He s certainly outgrown that name. He was selected as the wmner of the Body Beautiful contest who on earth ls making that dreadful DOISB9 You might know lt sJoann Brownell.
