C.S. to make their way in the world. Among the milling crowd we find the Class of '53 filing despondently out the door, disappointed once more in their quest for a class that measures up to the standards that they left at Ovid Central ten long years ago. Suddenly that famous never-to-be-forgotten cry of the Class of '53 rings out on the night air -- Let's have a party! A quick discussion, a mad dash for the cards, and Kidder's is the destination. The first car to pull up is a '63 Cadillac convertible. Wait a minute -- does that belong here? Why yes, it's Charles 'Speed' Gleisner. He was heard earlier this evening telling Mrs. Depew about the seven jobs he's holding down. Just like high school, huh Chas? Well, look who's holding the door for everyone -- Jack Braisington, always the perfect gentlemenrr? I mean, always the perfect gentleman. fI'm sure he didn't MEAN to trip Kate.j Jack has really traveled up the business ladder. After graduating from R.I. T. , he is managing a branch of Macy's right here in Ovid. Leave it to Jim Lynch. He's getting tables pushed together, juke box going, and everything organized. His 'School of Dance' has put Hayts Comets on the map. He also lectures extensively on How to get the most out of your Ford. fCont. on page 735 i HW m Q7CTlV51Tg Aix? In our Freshman year, we were divided into two classes with Barbara Keady as President of one group and Emil Homyack as President of the other. Our advisors for this year were Mrs. Depew and Mrs. Franklin with Mrs. Meyer taking over Mrs. Depew's group at the half year mark. David Van Vleet was elected president for our second year in high school with Justin Martin as vice-president and Patricia Depew as the secretary-treasurer. During our Sophomore year we had one money making activity, a school paper called the Hornet's Nest. This proved very educational to those who worked on it, After Mrs. Meyer, our advisor, left, Miss Edds took over and continued in that capacity to the bitter end. At the start of the Junior year we were still in homeroom 203, where we remained for the rest of our school days, Justin Martin was elected President of the class with Barbara Keady as vice-president, Carol Dann as secretary, and Gail Vreeland as treasurer, We devoted most of our time to making money for our Senior Trip. We sold Christmas cards, stationery, candy and held a dance for the champion football team at the close of the season. Two bake sales were held and on Linco1n's birthday we had our Junior supper. Our social activities were the Senior Ball and the Junior review, the Gay Nineties , both of which were very successful. When the big year arrived, our president by a unanimous vote was again Justin Martin. The rest of the officers were vice-president Dick Shanley, secretary David Van Vleet, and the treasurer Patricia Depew. Since we found our- selves in a financially sound position, we had little to do outside of selling magazines and producing the Senior Play, STRANGE BOARDERS. In February, the PTA put on the Valentine Tea for our benefit. In April the all important trip to Washington took place. This was the culmination of our four happy years of high school life. 7 if Q If '51, N 4 S3 ln I- , . E ' f s',G:5 ,5:..i'--'rf fx Q L- Fir f Q I 0 ,924 -'ff f 3 , ,Q lb., 4- tl ' X 1291. HL, Interlaken New York fCont. from page 263 fThere's a dirty rumor circulating that Jimmy drives an Oldsmobile now -- under cover of darkness, of course. J Norma Behnke, alias Miss Secretary of l963 , has come back to Ovid for a short stay. She now has a position in Hollywood as secretary to Cecile de Mille. Norma says that she isn't going to settle down right away, but just look around awhile. That's the place f0l' if- Everyone has quieted down and is talking to his neighbor. Everyone except Kate. that is. She 's flirting from table to table. Kate went through every opportunity in the nursing profession and has gone out on her own. Her latest venture is a home for aged men. fBut not TOO aged.J We have a very special dignitary with us tonight -- the Honorable Willard Charles, Mayor of Lodi. Under Wi1lard's leadership. Lodi is now a famous resort town, known far and wide as the 'Paris of the Finger Lakes . There's Connie! After starting nurses training she found that such talent as she exhibited in the senior play could not be lightly set asideg she has become a concert violinist. qWe don't think that she's devoted all her time to her music though. Look at that engagement ring! Guess whoij Who's that distinguished looking gentleman sitting quietly at the end of the table? Well, if it isn't Fred Hallett, the brilliant lawyer. No doubt he's pondering over his latest case. Fred is handling the defense of a certain Mr. Shaw who is suing Ovid Central for an art room. lt seems they never included one inthe plans of '53, It'll be a tough one, but Fred can handle it! Kay 'Mama' Limner is running a day nursery for children of working mothers. As if she didn't have enough to do with four of her own, t'I'hat's cormting her husband.J We knew she would use the nurse 's training. Louis 'Bang 'Em Up' Chatelle has become very famous in the stock car circuit. Everyone knows Louis's motto -- If I can start it, I can wreck it. He has applied what he learned 1 PJ in physics and developed the fastest car of the century, 'Chatelle 's Chariot . Carol Dann is wearing the cleverest blouse! It is orange and on the back in black letters is, 'Shop and Save at Carol's Gift Shop . Carol's merchandise consists of all the things she saved for college and when she got there found she couldn't use. Oh yes, kids the peroxide finally grew out. There's a sneak of grey there now. Richard 'Pinchpenny' Lahr is surrounded by former classmates clamoring to be told the secret of his financial suc- cess. His biggest source of income is from the stock he holds in Kenyon's Florist. fDick helped to establish this business during his high school daysj. You thought he'd put on weight! Oh no, that's just his money belt. He never did trust banks after the big bank robbery of '52. Frances Martin couldn't bear to leave O. C. S. She's now sewing the lucky pupils the most delicious meals this side of the Waldorf-Astoria. Her cafeteria which she has rigged up like the Automat was pictured in LIFE last week. Ovid finally has a theater. Paul Christensen is the proud owner, manager, and janitor fyou have to cut expenses some placej of this establishment. You can't say Paul forgot his classmates: every member of the Class of '53 has a life- time pass to the Ovid Bijou. And here comes Gail! She's making use of those nice eyes modeling her own 'Safety Pin Glasses. fNecessity is the mother of invention. 3 How does she ever find time to do this and take care of her triplets - Ronnie, Ricky, and Russ. I say now, look who's just walked in -- Justin J. Martin, Jr. Jake was unavoidably detained by some photographer or something. It seems he's been named 'Man of the Year' by TIME and they're rurming his life story complete with pictures. There's an unconfirmed nrmor around that Jake's going to resign as president of Comell and run for dog-catcher fCont. from page 733 -- whoops -- I mean, senator. Stop Bill! He's arguing with the waitress. lr isn't her fault the juke box doesn't have any square dance records. Billy Wame now has his own square dance troupe -- 'The Happy Squares. They give exhibitions in schools all over this country and Canada. No, the pay isn't too goodg in fact, Bill has to pay the schools, but he claims it's the only life. There's Lyle standing on the chair. fHe's discussing again and wants everyone to hear him.J Lyle enjoyed ar- guing so much in high school that he's making a career out of disagreeing with anybody about anything publicly, He's the nation's top commentator, Oh! Who did Barb Keady take a swing at? When will you leam that she doesn't like to be called Wheel , Jake. Barb has written several best-sellers all in the same vein of thought. Her latest is HOW TO BE HAPPY THOUGH FRIENDLESS. David Van Vleet is looking very rested after his trip to France, He's become quite the world traveler. Last year it was Cuba, before that Switzerland, Italy, etc. All this wandering started in '52 with his Trip to Toronto fon school time J. Doug 's path through life really surprised SOME of us, He's now known as The Blushing Valentino . Doug also sings and has recently bought back an oldie, And So To Sleep Again . Of course, it's good! He practiced it every day in chemistry class back at Ovid, didn't he? Look at that diamond tie clasp and cuff links Dick Shanley is sporting. And did you see that limousine he arrived in? By popular demand he's writing his memoirs: I MARRIED WEALTH or LOVE -- NUTS! We hear Marge Wagner's familiar, How Nasty . Everyone who goes near her gets greeted with, Have you been psychoanalyzed? , instead of the conventional, 'How are you? . Marge is busy showing off a snapshot of her red-haired son and explaining the absence of her husband, the Admiral. fHe's in Washington advising the President,J Dick Keenan, using his business initiative, has started his own public welfare plan, This takes the shape of a driv- ing school. Yes sir, Dick thinks that everyone should learn to drive correctly. Some times it takes a lot of practice though. How about it, Dick? Pat Depew's stunning dress is getting a lot of comment.
