CLASS HISTORY One bright sunny day in September, 1945, 25 boys and 23 girls entered the Freshman homeroom of Ovid Central School. As the room contained only 35 seats, 13 girls were situated in the Library with Miss Coleman as teacher, Miss Mannix was class advisor for both classes. The class officers were as follows: President ---- Jack Maher Secretary - - - Winona Parsons Vice-President - - Ruth Voorhees Treasurer - - - Don Griflin Student Council Representatives were Jane Harris and Paul O'Connell This being our Ninth Grade we had the following honor students in our Commencement: Valedictorian - Ruth Voorhees Third Honor - Robert Ferguson Salutatorian - William Keill Fourth Honor - Floyd Covert At the beginning of our Sophomore year we were 19 boys and 17 girls with Mrs. Ditmars as class advisor. Our class was well represented in school activities with four boys on the football team and six boys participating in basketball. Two of our girls were also on the varsity cheer- leading squad. We chose the following officers: President - - - Robert Ferguson Secretary - - Gordon Boyce Vice-President - - Melvin Quinn Treasurer - - - William Keill Student Council Representatives were Ruth Voorhees and Jerry Reed To add money to our treasury we held a bake sale which proved very successful. Our Junior year was somewhat more eventful. The class consisted of 17 boys and 18 girls and our advisor was again Mrs. Ditmars. The class officers elected were: President - - - Torrey Fritts Secretary and Vice-President - - - Jack Maher Treasurer - - - Ruth Voorhees Student Council Representatives were Walter Spingstein and Joan VanNostrand Soon after school started we ordered our Senior rings. An excited class were we on that January day when the rings arrived. We also sponsored another bake sale and had charge of the Senior Ball. Now we have come to our last and Senior year in old Ovid Central with a membership of 13 boys and 14 girls. With Mrs. Meyer as an able class advisor, we elected the following officers: President - - Jerry Reed Secretary - - Elaine Vreeland Vice-President - - Jack Maher Treasurer - - - Diana Caulum Student Council Representatives were Walter Spingstein and Joanne VanNostrand After great discussion on the part of the Board of Education and the Faculty, it was finally agreed that we should be allowed to go on a Senior trip. At length it was decided that we should go to Washington and we have been as busy as bees trying different money-making schemes ever since. We started off with a bake sale which netted us 325.4 7. Then came the magazine sales from which we sold over one thousand dollars worth of subscriptions. For this achievement the magazine agency has awarded us a bronze plaque. . The Senior Play, Brother Goose, with its well chosen cast was a huge success and netted us an substantial amount of money, Sales of paper napkins at the play and by the students around town and selling candy at the basketball games have also increased the money in our treasury. On February 14 the P.T.A. sponsored a silver tea for our benefit which proved to be a success. We shall always cherish the memories of Ovid and our many happy days spent here. It is with regret that we leave our Alma Mater, but we are all looking forward to the days ahead.
