E ARRIVED l I We are now the Senior Class of O.C.S.--thirty-nine strong. To guide us through this our- last year of high school, we chose the following class officers: President ----------- Edwin Smith Vice-President ----- -June Russell Secretary ----------- Olga Sabol Treasurer ---------- Paul Munson To be our representatives to the Student Council we chose Muriel Gahn and Ted Bingaman. We started the year off with a bang by having a magazine selling campaign which netted us quite a profit--3300 to be exact. On October 14, 1947, we ordered our personal cards which arrived Nov. 13, 1947. We decided, to sponsor another Halloween Party, and with the aid of the Community 'Recreation Committee, we again made it a success. The big event of the year, our Senior Play, occurred on the nights of Nov. 19 and 21 and was the talk of the town for some time after. Of course the talk was good for it was a huge success. Early in December we had our Senior pictures taken and everybody came to school dressed in his Sunday best. We received our pictures before Christmas vacation so that we could use them as Christmas gifts. Class Night, the Senior Ball, Baccalaureate and Commencement are the crowning events of the Senior year. While we are looking forward to attaining our chosen post-graduate careers, we will never forget these years spent at Ovid Central. OH! THOSE SENIORS C pgpl 17

545' OUR short years ago, the Class of '48 began its Freshman year in room 207 with Miss Mannix as its advisor. After vainly trying to crowd fifty-nlne of us into a room with a seating capacity of forty, it was decided to send the excess number to the library where they would be under the super- vision of Miss Cloos, the librarian. We were classified as 9A and 9B. Each homeroom elected its own class officers and they were as follows: 9A-President ----- Paul Mullan 9B-President ----------- Richard Steele Vice-President-John Maleskl Vice-President ------ T eresa Kaiser Secretary ------ Edwin Smith Secretary-Treasurer-Norma Swick Treasurer ----- Ruth VanVleet Student Council Representatives--Dorothy Miller Kathleen Stahl Ross Laughlin Arthur Lynch On March 16th we .meld a vlc dance in the school auditorium in order to raise money for the year- book. It was a financial success. We closed our Freshman year with a Junior High Commencement which was a big event in our lives. The honors were taken as follows: Valedlctorlan-Ruth VanVleet, Salutatorian-Edwin Smith, Third Honor-June Russell, Fourth Honor-Joan Murphy. In September, 1945 we entered Senior High as forty-eight mild, meek Sophomores. We elected the following class officers: President ----------- William Schramm Vice-President ----- Norma Swick Secretary-Treasurer-Richard Roach Betty Putnam and Howard Lincoln were chosen to be the Sophomore representatives to the Student Council. In January the Sophomore class was very patriotic and did its part in the overseas clothing drive held at the school. We started our Junior year on September 3, 1946 with fifty-nine members. Our class officers were: President ---------- John Maleski Vice-President ------ Teresa Kaiser Secretary-Treasurer-June Russell Olga Sabol and Herbert McCutcheon were our representatives to the Student Council. November 4, 1946 was a very happy day for the Juniors--we ordered our Senior rings. March 11, 1947 was even a happier day for us, for on that day we received our rings. Our activities of the year began with a Halloween Party. The Community Recreation Committee helped us to make it a community affair and hired Bob Llnton's orchestra for the occasion. While dancing was going on ln the auditorium, various games were played in different rooms. Our Junior Prom was held on March 14, 1947 and was a success. Then in Junewe sponsored the Senior Ball. 16

Pao ,ATHER 'round everybody and let's gaze into our crystal ball to see what the exceptional class of '48 is doing after ten years of hard lmocks. TIME: 1958 Ted Bingaman, who is now Python the famous wrestler, has established a record of squeezing five people to death. Beware girls! Beverly Brokaw, that successful young writer, has just finished her fourth book. However, the men ln her life haven't been very successful. It seems that Bev has a mind of her own. Alice Beach and Elva Jacoby are designers. Their creations are considered very ultra-ultra from Podunk to Paris. Alice specializes in beachwear while Elva specializes in slacks. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Harding fthe former Agnes MacCheyneJ are operating a hamburger stand near Lodi. Dick collects the money while his wife does all the work. That girl about town, Helen Lochren, is still playing the field. I wonder if whe will ever settle down. She papered her room with snapshots of dear, departed male escorts. Arthur Lynch runs a service station in Hayts Corners with all the latest equipment. He special- lzes in fixing tires for stranded women. Leroy Swick has moved bag, baggage and Ruth Ann to Trumansburg where they have a sweet shoppe. They even have a cover charge because the place is so high class. Ted Smith owns a chain of pencil factories across the country. He developed the flavored pencil which sells even better than lollypops. Of course, june always believed that a woman's place was in Ted's home, so that's where she ls. Marjorie Miller has a dancing studio in Canandaigua. It's very successful-- if you consider one customer a week successful. Norma Swlck and Howard Lincoln have settled down to a peaceful married life. However, the pat- ter f?J of tiny feet sometimes shatters the peacefulness. Seward Brooks has just completed a cross-country tour with his band, Dutch's Iazzsters. As their featured singer, they have Mamie Gahn. She is, in reality, a capable little homemaker for a certain, blond, curly-headed fellow. Need I say more? May Nicholson is leading a happy married life. She has become well-lmown around the vicinity for her luscious buckwheat cakes. Dr. Heyman is president of Harvard, Ever since her college days at Sampson, she has loved belng surrounded by men and decided to spend her life in such a manner. Could anyone do any better? And now we come to that leader of men and follower of women, John Maleskl. He was elected Gover- nor of New York State in the last election. We wonder who his wife isl Now don't commit us as we dldn't say Sabol. Draw your own conclusion. Jack Quinn is Chief of Police at Willard. He enforces the law there, but his wife enforces lt at home. Ah, wedded bllssl Ann Simpson liked the college at Binghamton so well that she decided to stay. Rumor has it that Alan lived there, too. Could that have anything to do with it? Paul Munson is the owner of the Lingring Bros. Circus. Seems that he started out being the thin man but :cats such a success that he was soon able to buy the circus. That proves the theory of starting from the om. Teresa Kaiser has given up her job of breaking men's hearts in Ovid, and ls a switchboard operator in Willard. Of course, she does plug in a few wrong numbers. I wonder why she chose Willard. jay Fritts is president of the Miser Bank Company. The bank has a very good reputation because jay is very conscientious and counts the money everyday. Gerald Brewer is recuperating from a broken clavlcle. Apparently, he didn't have his mind on his driving. Was Marie with him? Wlnnie's husband, johnny, has quite a time supporting her. With her reckless driving, he has to buy at least one fender a week. Poor Iohnnyl Dorothy Miller is now in Rochester where she is a stenographer for the Trickenziemer Tack Co. When she runs out of work, she acts as a tester for the product the company puts out. Get the point? Good old Casanova Stevens still makes plenty of trips to Crow Hill but doesn't have courage enough to pop the question. He was always so bashful, you know! Even though joan Murphy attended Cornell University her interest in Sampson didn't end. A cer- tain fellow named Al might have had something to do with it. Ruth Herrala has just returned from her third trip aroxmd the world. She made her fortune by discovering a way to mend broken hearts. just having Ruth around would do that, wou1dn't it? Bill Schramm, still unable to decide on who should be Mrs. Schramm, has taken a job ln South America. But if we know Bill, that's just his way of keeping us from knowing that he wants to look the Senoritas over. Audrey Cassidy is now head coach at Ovid. It seems that she took over Coach Kay's job. She loves her work and has such a way with the boys. You know Audrey! 'Ruth VanVleet has become the junior partner of the Wagner Peach Cannery near Caywood. It all began with thinning peaches, tool Dorothea Herbert is now head of the Strait jacket Department in Binghamton State Hospital. Her motto ls We don't put them on unless they fit. ' Looking back over the successful f?J class of '48, we are well satisfied. As we pass back through the door into the present, we give Mrs. Depew the password, Be Specific! 18
