A standard belief exists among fo otb all coaches and athletes that is applica- ble to any sport. That belief is that in playing a sport, a team makes its own breaks. This year, not only did Overton's football team make its own breaks, but also it fully capital- ized upon those breaks and took advantage of each situation. It is safe to say that an opponent's mis- take was more often than not an Overton score: Throughout the sea- son Overton pounded one opponent after another, often totally annihi- lating those who stood between our team and the goal line. To find one word which would best describe the 1973 Bobcats would be difficult. Yet there is one characteristic of this years squad which is most out- standing. That quality was team- work. Never were eleven individual players on the field. There was always a team—a unit of guys dedi- cated to winning. Blessed with out- standing athletes and coaches, our team possessed a sense of determi- nation and dedication unequaled by former Overton teams. That the 1973 season was the finest one in the history of Overton football is, there- fore, not surprising.
