Love—like the Autumn sun Should be dying, but it’s only just begun. Like the twilight in the road up ahead They don’t see just where they're going, And all the secrets in the universe Whisper in our ears and all the years will come and go And take us up, always up. Dreams-—so they say Are for fools and they let them drift away. Peace—like the silent dove, Should be flying, but it’s only just begun. Irvin, Mary Sweatt A standard belief exists among fo otb all coaches and athletes that is applica- ble to any sport. That belief is that in playing a sport, a team makes its own breaks. This year, not only did Overton's football team make its own breaks, but also it fully capital- ized upon those breaks and took advantage of each situation. It is safe to say that an opponent's mis- take was more often than not an Overton score: Throughout the sea- son Overton pounded one opponent after another, often totally annihi- lating those who stood between our team and the goal line. To find one word which would best describe the 1973 Bobcats would be difficult. Yet there is one characteristic of this years squad which is most out- standing. That quality was team- work. Never were eleven individual players on the field. There was always a team—a unit of guys dedi- cated to winning. Blessed with out- standing athletes and coaches, our team possessed a sense of determi- nation and dedication unequaled by former Overton teams. That the 1973 season was the finest one in the history of Overton football is, there- fore, not surprising. E Hiha) 7h 8s. 402 i) a ive © BoE , we 4 a - =@ 1 ‘o . wf = Row 1: Pat Moore, M. Love—like the Autumn sun Should be dying, but it’s only just begun. Like the twilight in the road up ahead They don’t see just where they’re going, And all the secrets in the universe Whisper in our ears and all the years will come and go And take us up, always up. Dreams-—so they say Are for fools and they let them drift away. Peace—like the silent dove, Should be flying, but it’s only just begun. Like Columbus in the olden days We must gather all our courage, Sail our ships out on the open seas, Cast away our fears, and all the years will come and go And take us up, always up. So I wanna laugh while the laughing is easy, I wanna cry if it makes it worthwhile, I may never pass this way again. Like I’m the journey and you're the journey’s end, I may never pass this way again. That objective is to be the best; to do the very best job possible. From the early days of September until dis- tr ibution of each student’s annual in May, we of the 1974 OVERTOUR staff have been striving to meet our objectives. The time and talent con- tributed by each member was done so knowing that the cause was worthwhile. The experiences received in return for our efforts will be forever invaluable. It is a rewarding feeling to feel that you have done your best, and to feel that your best is very good, if not the best. As editor I have come to know and appreciate all the factors involved in producing such a book as this. To credit one person for the making of the 1974 OVERTOUR would be an injustice to all those who helped create it. Yet, one particu- lar person did provide the spark that kept the fire burning. Carolyn Read Pickering, as the OVERTOUR advisor, gave the impetus that made the 1974 OVERTOUR what it now is. Her constant pushing of the yearbook’s production, and the excellent printing and cooperation of Benson Printing Company, Inc., have made this year’s book exceptional. A great vote of appre- ciation is due each. The school year 1973-1974, like all other years, has been a unique one. The 1974 OVERTOUR, like the past nine months, is also unique. It is not different to be different; it is different be- cause each year is different. It is our wish that this book will communicate—not only to each student—but to all who read it, those things that -made this year a significant part of our lives— past, present, and future.
