Swimming Swapped for Shopping As the summer of 1980 drew to a close, students and parents prepared for the new school year, which began on Seprember 2. Preparation varied from visiting the beauty shops, shopping for new clothes, buying school supplies, and completing rhe seemingly endless forms necessary for reais- tration. 1. Organizations Fall into Shape Fall ‘80 was a busy time for organizations; each electing officers, initiating new members, and rais- ing funds by selling items ranging from fruit to tupperware. One especially busy club, the band, received a first division rating at the U.I.L. March- ing Contest held on November 11. 1. FHA president, Cindy Creekmur, crowns Toby White ‘King Pie Eater’’ at an assembly during homecoming week. 2. FFA mem- bers eagerly unload fruit. 3. Lori Brown, Robbi Young, Cheryl Elliott and Christy Chiles proudly show-off the U.L.L. first division trophy won by the band in Lufkin. 4. Lori Brown, a participant in a 4H exchange program, informs FHA members about Japan. 5. Leslie Pitts, Gary Clark, Shari Turner, and Robbi Young prac- tice for the Halloween play, The Grounded Witch, in Speech class. 6. Christy Chiles, Tracy McCartor, Linda Branscom, and Misty Stanger make spirit signs for the band hall celebrating a 1 ar the Kilgore contest. 7. During the last pep rally, Dhustie Hendley and Missy Gardner dress as tigers for their cheerleader initiation. 8. Felicia Rinehart, Christy Chiles, and Donna Florence work on the ad section of the annual. 9. Jr. High Cheerleaders, Jenny Feazell and Sally Stroud, make signs for the Ponies’ pep rallies. 10. The band performs the drill prepared for U.I.L. Marching Contest. 11. Teresa Utsey, Martha McCartor, and Tracy McCartor enjoy twirler initiation performing as the Lone Rangeress, Tontoness, and a villianess. 12. The band members take a break, after a month of practice, fo enjoy a swimming party.
