0 real prob! ms SWIMMING Getting our of practice on a winter night, with a cold wind blowing through your wet hair, was part of being a swimmer. The swim season, whch ran in three parts, was between No- vember and March, the coldest part of the Colorado year, The practice season for the swim team ran as such: first, practice to get in shape, sec- ond, specialized worlsouts, and finally, a taperfdown where practice distances were cut, This practice merhad paid off for the boys. l'For the first time in three years we had a suc- cessful season for everyone in- volved. No real problems, said Jr. Peter Calkins. Although the swimmers were happy with rheir perfor- mance, few spectators atrendf ed the meets and could exper- ience this joy, Most peple who watched the meets were par- ents of the swimmers, along with a few teachers. lviost spec- tators who did watch the event would usually return to later meets, however. Possibly the greatest aspect of swimming, Jr. Dan Pollack said, was the team spirit and friendship you can gain.
