eeting the chall nge WRESTLING 'lsnocls 'em down Lay 'em flat Pin those shoulders to the mar This cheer was of- ren heard ar varsity wrestling matches as cheerleaders en- couraged the wrestlers to do their best, They were not disapf pointed, for doing their best and giving their all was something the varsity wrestlers excelled or throughout the season, The wrestling team had a good season, with eight wins against five losses before the disrricr tournament, The success- train hard. lt's demanding and talses discipline, said Sr. Jamie Akens. The Blazer wrestlers had discipline, and their hard worlx paid off. Wrestlers not only had to train hard, they had ro face oth- er aspects of their life that were affected by the wrestling sea- son. Many wrestlers had to go on stricr diets to lose enough weight to wrestle in a specific weight class. Also, time outside of practice needed to be strucf tured so that schoolworls could be done. Nevertheless, the wrestlers felt that the result was thing you want, norjusr in wresf tling, but in life, said Jr. Chuck Wennogle. Jamie also thought the time and effort were worthwhile. l-le said, I wrestle because of the excitef ment, the challenge, the one- on-one competition, and the fact that there are no excuses as to why you lost. Ar rhe district tournament, Sr. Tim Rosenzweig won the championship in the 155 pound weight class. Jr. Chuck Wenno- gle earned third place and a trip to state, as did Jr. Dennis Baca. Sr. Jason Franzen also finished qualified for a state tourna- ment, said Coach Greg Maes- tas. Ar the state tournament, Jr. Dennis Baca placed fifth after wrestling in seven matches with five wins and two losses. We had a really good state tournaf ment, said Maestas, l'We earned the most points we ever did at a tournament-14 VZ The varsiry wrestling team rrained hard and worlsed for an excellent team and season.
