cooperative effort BASKETBALL The dictionary defines a team os a group of people worlsing together to achieve a common goal. The freshman, sophomore, and junior varsity girls' basl-zetball teams lived up to this definition. The members vvorlsed together ot mal-Qing their team the best, Winning games was important and satis faction was what the girls aimed for. The teams had many differ- ent methods of boosting their team members' confidence. Before every game, we have 'buddy bags' which we fill with candy or whatever and include o little message lilee 'you'll do great in the gomel' l thinls they help because they give us per- sonal inspiration and motivate us to do well, said Fr. Brandi DeBono. Other activities that the teams participated in to- gether included slumber parties and vvotching other games. However, ploying baslsetball vvasn't always fun. The girls had to practice every doy using such training methods as run' ning laps, doing drills and scrime maging. The freshman team did very vvell placing first in the league, and second in the tourf nament. Both of the sopho- more ond JV teams did better than ever with impressive ref cords of Qfo and Q-o, Although ploying baslsetboll tools a lot of time and effort, most players agreed that ir was worth it. JV coach Carla Stearns soid, ul love coaching at Overland, it was a great experf ience. I love the players and hope to continue coaching next year. Soph. Jenny Dittman summed it up by saying, l'Anyf one can play baslsetball-it's fun and eosy to learn. All you have to do is try! 66 After the great coaching and discipline at Overland, the basketball teams have made improvements. Mrs. Judy Pacheco. Jr. Lisa Moore dribbles dovvn the court as she attempts to avoid a member from the opposing team The game vvas played at home against Aurora Central, with Over- land winning 38-31.
