tarting all over SWIMMING Answering an advertisement in the paper led Jerry Urbach to the waters of Utah Pool as Overland's new Girls' swim- ming coach. Along with him he brought assistant coach Mike Richmond, who was student teaching at Overland, He also brought diving coach Ellen Ackinson, whom Jerry thought gave great attitude and spirit to the team. As Soph. Mandy Stroud said, lt was a fun seaf son. lr felt lilse oil the team members were treated eaualf ly, not as just an A-League swimmer, or a B-League swime mer, which made it easier for us to get along, Injuries, illnesses, and probe lems with the pool gave the team most of its difficulties. The team was forced to practice at Cherry Creels High School for two weel-is because Utah Pool had a leals and the boiler went out. Practicing at Creels was hard on everybody's schedule Cpractice time was from 4:30 7100 pmb, and worlsouts were hard to plan because they got less yardage Cswimming dis- tanceD, commented Urbach. The Aurora City Meet was the biggest meet of the season. Up against arch rival Smolsy Hill, Overland got its hopes up for a victory. Even though it tools sec- ond place behind Smolsy Hill, it went well with lots of team spirit and tough competition which made us worls harder, com- mented Sr. Tracy Loftis, who qualified for state in the 200 yard individual Medley and the 100 yard Butterfly at the city meet. Both Sophs. Stacy Reeder and Yvette Witzel agreed that the season went pretty well. Sr. Tracy Loftis said, The season started out rough with the new coach, and every' body had their little cliaues, but we soon started to form team unity. Team captains Srs. Hiede Teske, Tracy, and Gin- ger Margolin helped to l-seep the team together. The cap- tains did a greatjob lseeping us unified and letting us lsnow what was going on, com- mented Jr. Louise McAdams, who was a state qualifier in the 100 yard Breaststrolse. Fr. Gail Kravitz felt it was a very good team, with lots of talent, but didn't lilse the freshman job of putting in the lane ropes, Coach Urbach also thought the season went well. He was pleased with the improvements in times and loolsed forward to next season, 66 They look great, more unified, which shows dur- ing their meets.
