ast kicking action SOCCER Soccer: intense, fast-paced a tough sport, but well worth the strained effort, ac- cording to the boys' soccer players. The energy, enthusi- asm, and minute by minute ace tion of the games proved the long hours of practice worthf while. Jeff Keefe, coaching for the first time at Overland, was thrilled when his 10 A team beat Cherry Creels. lt was a first for Overland soccer, he said proudly, He was impressed with his players, The whole dee tense was outstanding! The team was equally impressed with their coach. Soph. Joe Stol- cis thought that soccer was great because Coach put ev- eryone in and everyone got the chance to play, Winners of team awards were Most Value able Player Fr. Ace Vaughn, Most Valuable Supportive Playe er Soph. Joe Stolcis, and Best All Around Player of 10 A Soph. Dave Eaton. Playing a competitive sport for the first time at Overland was exciting and challenging for freshmen players. Accord- ing to 1O I3 Coach Bert Dalton and Fr. Scott Preisser and Tony Bevill, the Aurora Central game was the thrill of the season. The team won 41 All in all, the guys were out to have a good time and learn the basics about soccer , said Dalton. Both the fans and the freshmen cheerleaders were supportive. Winners of team awards were Most Valuable Player Fr. Scott Preisser, Most Improved Fr. Tony Bevill, and Most lnspirae tional Fr. Jason Persoff. The team record was 8 wins, 8 losses, and 1 tie, JV soccer players enjoyed practicing with the varsity a great deal. Soph. Kevin Shive felt that the best, yet most frus- trating, part of the season was when they nearly beat Cheery Creels. I'We were tied and lost at the last minute, but we played a good game. Jr. Da- vid Hughes was happy about the team record and said, Eve eryone improved a great deal! Parents showed up cone sistently for the games, proving an inspiration to Coach Debra Etchison and the players. Win- ners of the team awards were Most Valuable Player Soph. Kevin Shive, Most Improved Jr. Matt Gibbs, and Most Inspi- rational Soph. Allan Harris. The team record was o wins and 7 losses. After watching Cherry Creek Recreational Soccer, it ff was good to see a more professional game. I en- Fr.
