It was one thot the freshmon ond sophomore football teams did vvell: it vvos winning. The sophomore football team had o very good season, one of which they were justifif ooly proud. We reolly wanted to vvin this year, soid Soph. Scott Nannemon, ond win they did. They finished in sec- ond ploce in the Centennial League with o record of o-3. The offense averaged o totol of 219 yards rushing and 200 yards passing, ond goined o to- tol of 254 points in O gomes, averaging 24.5 points per game. The defense held other teams to on overoge of 13 points per gome, Three team members, Rob Dirge, Melvin Rasberry ond Scott Nanne- man vvere in the vorsity line-up vvhen not playing sophomore gomes. Teom members otttibuted their success to tolent ond to other ployers, out most of all to teom spirit ond o desire to win, Team cooperation wos one of the best things about the seof son, soid Soph. David Moor- head. The teom's coach, Jeff Thompson, soid, 'lThe teom's strong point vvos thot they played together os o teom ond not os individuals. For this group, their team spirit ond hord worls poid off. The undefeated freshmon teom placed first in the Ieogue. With o score of 20-17, they bee come the first freshmon football team to beat Cherry Creels. The freshmon defense held oppos- ing teoms to on overoge of oA points per gome, while the off fense averaged 25 points. Coach Jeff Sweet cooched Blozer footooll for the first time this seoson. His ployers agreed thot he was o good coach. I thought our coach is the best l've ever hod, soid Fr. Doug Day. The freshmon cooch op, proved of his ployers also. Sweet soid, The chorocter of the teom is outstanding. I con't osls for more. This mutual re- spect got the freshmen well on their vvoy in their football co- reers. From the three sophomores vvho were in the vorsity lineup to the freshmen playing football for the first time, the players oll had one thing in common. They worlsed hord, stucle with the teom, and got the loo done. 485 The boys were all happy with the coaching and 66 the games had o positive atmosphere. Everyone had a good time. 99 Mrs. Vinnie Biltimier
