FOOTBALL The 1984 varsiry Blazers were a rough acr ro follow. Nor only did rhis ream follow ir, bur rhey wenr on ro have rhe grearesr season in Overland his- rory. Jr. Cathy Lang was one of many srudenrs who had doubrs about rhe ream ar rhe beginning of rhe season. Afrer losing rhe grear players we had lasr year, l didn'r rhinls we would have a very srrong ream, bur ir was obvious rhar our ream had rhe desire ro win, because we did, said Cathy. The season srarred wirh a lopsided vicrory over Lirrleron, imply awesome By Homecoming, rhe Blazers had an impressive 7-O record as rhey bear rhe Arapahoe War- riors 219. One game, however, srood our as rhe highlighr of rhe sea son-rhe long-awaired vicrory over Cherry Creels. x'Team unif ry and characrer gave us rhe edge againsr Cherry Creelsf' said head coach Tony Man- fredi. lr was rhe firsr rime rhe vorsiry ream had ever bearen Creels, and rhey were rhe only ream ro do so in rhe regular season. The win was nor only an oursranding accomplishf menr for rhe foorball ream, bur a moral vicrory over irs archf rival which also resulred in rhe Cenrennial League Cenrury Di- vision championship, impressively, rhe foorball ream ranlsed in rhe rap rhree in rhe Cenrennial League in every one of rhe following caregories: roral offense of C328 yards per game, roral defense allowing only 202 yards per game, poinrs scored per game C27 ave,D, poinrs allowed per game C12 ave,D1 roral passing yardage of oo yards per game , and roral rushing yardage of 258 yards per game. Excepr for rhe defeat by Smolsy Hill, rhe Blazers ap- peared almosr invincible unril rhey were bearen by Thomas Jefferson in rhe second round of rhe srare playoffs, Alrhough rhe loss ended rheir season, rhey had every righr ro be proud of whar rhey had done, said Manfredi. Firsr ream All-League players included cenrer Barry Lutter- man, guard Sean Sauner. run- ning bacls Tommy Williamson, defenisve lineman Durl Reed, defensive end Bruce Gimens, and linebaclser Jeff Hill. Eric Tlydberg Rushing againsr Herirage is no problem for Sr. Tommy Williamson. In his firsr year on rhe vorsiry ream, Tommy was rhe Blazers leading rusher wrih 892 yards. 4lOQ -t were great. 66 I never missed a game this season. The Blazers Mrs. Mary Young Tlydberg Defensive end Bruce Givens purs pressure Homecoming game.
