When srudenrs were sitting in class and the dean suddene ly appeared, students often wondered who he was there ro see. Obviously someone was going to get in trouble. Last year I was hardly ever in class, and I never got caught, said Jr. Michelle Sturgeon. Though some students never gor caughr, others did. ul always gor caught. They would call me in if I missed a class, because I ditched roo much, said Soph. Eric Haney. While some srudenrs were worried about getting caught, others had ways of getting excused. III tell them what they want to hear. If I over sleep or have car problems I have my mom write a note saying I was ill, said Jr. LeeAnne Painter. When people ditched, ir was for any number of reasons. Sometimes ir was because they wanted to have an extra free period or they had a rest in rhar class. I ditched because it was fun, said Jr. Jenny Kendzora. Dirching, whether easy or hor, changed in the Iasr year. There were harsher punishments for students who ditched, Lasr year, if a student ditched for rhree or four days, he would get a couple days of infhouse suspension. Now the srudenr who ditched received an hour of detention for an hour of class missed. They want ro prove ro the freshmen rhar rhey're not easy to fool, said Jr. Joan Cho.
