Ginger Margolin, Remy Martin, Colleen O'Brien, Liesl Buck, '85 alumni Margie Oswald, and Mr. Ben Bowen gof rhis opporrunify rhe weele of June 23, They wenr ro rhe Narional Associarion Srudenr Council Convenrion and spenr a weels wirh srudenr council members from all over. lr's a grear experience ro learn more abour srudenr council, said Mr. Ed Ellis, rhe group's sponsor, who couldn'r go rhis year because of a scheduling conflicr over rhe sum- mer, The group flew ro Piirsburgh rhe morning of June 23. Once rhere, rhey were placed wirh families in rhe communif ry who had agreed ro hosr a few of rhe srudenrs. They would ear brealsfasr wirh rheir hosr family, rhen leave and probably nor ger bacls unril 11:00 or so ar nighr, said Ellis. Because of rhe busy schedule rhe NASC had planned for rhe srudenrs, rhey didn'r ger ro spend much rime sighrseeing Ar rhe NASC convenrion in Pirrsburgh, Srs. Ginger Margolin, Remy Martin, and Colleen O'Brien spend rime having fun and learning Meering Mr. Rogers was one unplanned evenr rhor rhe group experienced 9 4,-ZX GW 'QW l L ll . 'YP around Pirrsburgh. l'We did worlsshops and seminars on how ro ger your school more involved, said Remy. They spenr rime learning abour orher schools, how ro malse Overland beirer, and rhey mer new friends. Margie was invired ro give one of rhe seminars rhere because of rhe level of her enrhusiasm and abiliry as sfudenr body presidenr ar Overe land lasr year, Advisors were pur in a horel and followed a rorally differenr agenda. The rhing I learned abour mosr was enrhusiasm. lr's a real boosr for me ro be wirh sponsors from all over rhe narion, said Bowen. Srudenrs were chosen by Ellis. l'People applied and I chose based on how much rime rhey've pur info siudenr council and why rhey wanred ro go. lr's an honor and a privilege ro be able ro go. All in all ir was a very rewarding experience for everyone involved. The group all compared Ol-l5's srudenr council ro orhers. lr showed how srrong our srudenr council is comf pared ro orher schools, said Ginger. Senior year held more rhan graduarion for many sru- denrs. Noi only did rhey have rhe end of high school ro lools forward ro, rhey also celebrared rheir 18rh birrhday. A large parr of rhe celebrarion was being able ro legally buy 8.2 beer and ger info 0.2 nighr clubs lilse Mardi Gras. Anorher rhing rhar rhe 18rh birrhday symbolized was rhe rransirion from child ro adulr, While mosr srudenrs lool-zed forward ro rurning 18, some had mixed feelings. As Sr. Todd Corsaut said, 'Turning 18 is a lsicls because you can buy beer and get info Gras, bur ir also means ihar, since you are legally an adulr, you haye ro raise responsibiliry if you screw somerhing up.
