As the role of student council grew, so did that of the senior class officers, who did everything from planning school activities to helping as volunteers. Directing these events were the class officers They were President Ginger Morgolin, Vice-President Remy Martin, Secretary Heidi Teske, Treasurer Ashley Kissinger, and Representatives Debbie Kirschman, Liesl Buck, Clarke Stroud, Katie Schreck, and Julie Hutchins. Senior class officers all had some reason for getting in- volved, Some started their freshman year. Ashley said, My freshman year I ran for treasurer but l lost, So the next year l ran again and finally won. l've been involved ever since. Remy also ran for an office her freshman year. For her, getting involved was natural because she had upperclass- men friends who were in student council. Ashley said, I got involved in student council because it was a new thing for me. They didn't have it in junior high. Remy said, 'lWe're hoping the senior retreat will build some unity in the senior class. Another prqect dealt with getting Overland, Smolsy Hill, and Cherry Creels high schools together to discuss suqects lilse seniors getting out early, half days and other new rules that directly affected students. Although the senior officers were only a part of the student council, their leadership encouraged even more seniors to get involved. The number of students in student council had increased by almost twenty-five percent each new school year. Heidi said, The reason more people are getting into student council has a lot to do with its popularity and reputation. lt's a fun group! . s . 1 fi r it, 'T' v-I
