Ducls Making a Future Almost everyone has seen the movie Risky Business, where Tom Cruise belongs to the club Future Enterprisers of America, Al- though it is doubtful that any Overland stu- dents had the experience of running a busi- ness lilse the one in the movie, many stue dents did belong to businessforiented clubs. ln order to learn more about the business world and further their abilities in human relations, many students joined the clubs FBLA and DECA. The more active of the two was DECA, which stood for Distributive Education Clubs of America. Activities included malsing stocls- ings at Christmas for the preschoolers, having ing an employeefemployer banquet to thanls all the people who had supported them through the year. I-lalf of the 85 stu- dents who belonged to DECA went to the district competition. From there, several stuf dents made it to the state competition. They were Sr. Kari Perkins. who tools first ploce in state, and Jrs. Evan Armatas, Jennifer Bet- son, Todd Dole, and Vikram Joneja. DECA was an original group, because it was the only club where the students had to talse the class in order to belong in the club.
