HOMECOMI G '72 was on October 18. Before this date a lot of planning was done, the buttons were design- ed and the queen candidates were chosen. The week before: spirit rose, classes were heard cheering for their queens at 8:00 a. m. and quiet studies were hard to find. Tues. , Oct. 17, the seniors dressed up be- cause it was I-lobo Day. After school they piled into cars and went to Derham and Cretin to let them know who's team was best. On Wed. , at the pep rally, skits were per- formed, team members, queens and their escorts were introduced and many cheers were heard. JV 5 I What did he call that play????? After the pep rally everyone dressed warmly and headed outside, with purple banners in hand, to watch the big game. After hard playing and much screaming our team was de feated 6-O. The building consist- ed of St. Mary's Hall fthe old building and formerly St . Luke's grade school.j The principal pioneer as she was called, was Sr. Mary Adorinus, BVM. The uniform with gold insignia, blue oxfords, and blue nylon straw hats Cwhich were worn on spe- cial occasions with white gloves. School played a larger role in the life of students in the 5O's. Much more discipline existed then, especially when it came down to lunch. The girls would rise at the sound of the bell and quietly file out into the halls. In single file, all would proceed to the cafeteria with their divi- sion, find a table and remain standing until six were situated at each table and grace had been said. All would quickly be seat- ed and the chatter would begin. Traditional scheduling was the educational s y s t e m followed. lt's good to know that the girls then talked the 3 minutes be- tween classes like we do, es- pecially since we were told to be quiet. There was no real form of student government. The only student representationwere of- ficers elected within each homeroom, with the exception of the senior officers, who were considered school leaders. Many of the social occasions are the same as todayg junior Senior Prom, date dance, sophomore mixer, Dad -daughter dance and plays. The first OLP dance was a mixer with Cretin, and the theme of the first prom was Cherry Pink. Valegram Day, the much celebrated Valetine's day played a big role in school activities also. OLP had many musical groups in the early days, Peace Pipers, asmall en- semble and Peace Notes, a band . In 1953, ground breaking cere- monies began, preparing for a new-wing Philomena Hall. The hall was dedicated on Nov. 1, 1953.1954, Peace Points, origi- nally known as OLP's ECHO out- rew mimeograph and entered the printingclass. In 1955, OLP found itself to be the largest girls school in the Twin Cities with 900 students. But times were changing fast, and OLP found itself in the 60's. The last living rosary was in 1965. A student government was organ- ized in 1968, which was governed by a President voted in by the student body. Traditional sched- uling gave way to modular scheduling in 1969, and Vale- gram Day was never to be, after modular scheduling was intro- duced. New uniforms were in- troduced in 1972, and consisted of a blue tweed long vest, skirt andfor flared slacks. Even though OLP was keeping up with the times, there was a decline in the enrollment and the financial situation became pro- gressively worse. 1970 started a series of carnivals to save school, and in1972 candy sales were introduced but on Dec. 20, 1972, Candlelighting, it was announced OLPwas closing . . . And the rains came hailing down so that when it stopped you could smell the freshness of spring. Then he found it. It was a big brown bottle filled with an orange udding-like substance that wiggled like jello except that it was blue. I-le took it and put it in his golf cart to meet Spiro T. Agnew for a foursome with Bing.Crosby, Bob Hope, Lee Trevino, and Arnold Palmer. ' - lt was a beautiful cat. The Leopard skin had greenish fur and his eyes were the color of air since they had been gouged out by the neighborhood mouse. The tiger's name was Lassie, after his idol. He often visited Professor Van lven at the insane asylum, who kept a clean litter box and a box of Little Friskies ready for him on visiting days. Mrs. Van lven was busy at her Women's Lib meeting when Hazel came in to say that Harold was up a tree. But Hazel had already left for Cali- fornia to see Gracie and Mr. Bixby before she got an answer. So Harold was raised by the vultures that lived in the tree. They taught him how to hatch eggs. One day he was sitting in an egg when it began to crack. Then to his surprise a mouse came out and asked, Mommy are you the dirty rat who killed my brother? At that the cat ran down the tree and was never seen again. Albert finished his foursome. He added up his score and was surprised by his low total of 2, 948. He was proud of the fact that he had elimi- nated three sandtraps and a lake. As he left for home he stopped at the local bar for a glass of milk with ketchup. lt reminded him of his happy childhood in Transyvania, where the horses roamed wild. And White Mane romped the marshes in the foggy London air all day. But Sherlock to solve the Mystery of the Scarlet Claw, but went Holmes came along into shock and was never seen again. One crazy wind took your teen years, Who 'll know where your hopes are, In which lovers' arms. You went lots of places, you saw lots of things. And now you are the loneliest man. And the memories are old songs on your lips. You want to sing it, but you can't. The time kills you, in this. . . old friendly streets of this city I met you in the dusty mirrors. Your hair was folded on your forehead. Your eyes didn 't know that they were an eye. You were sad like Autumn nights, And beautiful like Autumn nights. You wanted to cry. It wasn't a thing that you wouldn't know how. A You were drunk of your sadness. s You were far away from this world. Your tired hands were in your pockets, You were hiding them you were embarrassed of them But your hands, They are so beautiful like a violin And they are soft like the songs. You are a forgetting man. Like my poems, which are never being understood. Being forgot with all the beautiful things. And my poems, looks like loneliness That sad, that lonely. Tiny as a little angel, and all as lovely. Her laugh could give you suchjoy, be- cause it was a laugh of funny happiness. You see we would tickle her a little bit, and she really loved it, so she would laugh. Even though she could not see with her eyes, and she was only a child, she truly saw with her heart, because she was so close to see- ing. her Father. To have her was to have something kind of wonderful. When she died it was sad, but we knew that she would be happy forever and ever. To see her little body in that casket, with her face more beau- tiful than the stars, and the blue sky, and the green trees, and the cool, clear water, and the blos- soming flowers. . . She was a creation of God, just as these things are, but in her death she was made perfect, the image of God, right there in that casket. Things on earth aren't perfect yet. That 's I why she was more beautiful, because she was perfect. I love her. My little sister. My little Caferine.
