And saw the sun beyond the bridge Beckoning my entrance to the whole. My heart beat, crescendo, I began! I never could have made it alone. The Sun highlighted, taught me in her reticence That life is mine and I must seek its depth, The world, vibrating, let me feel her pulse, I made my heart beat with it . . . Sounds of Life. People were my music and my dance, Their rhythms were exciting, all unique, I learned to step with many different times, Yet still to sing a melody my own. Life became of prism-depth and color And gave a new dimension to my thoughts I saw a World and realized Man's error, that he should call Infinity a Day. For life is Now, Immediate, Complete: -Yet still eternal, Leading into New. Growth, it supersedes the Halfworld And continues on a new envisioned mission-To discover, reach, and then embrace the Wholeworld Away across infinities of bridges. or H - -f - - . an Q i ws. And the first day we stare at the Tea Room robots. They will serve us if we're allowed only two cookies apiece at the Freshman Mother's Tea-lin order to save some for the mothersi. First day in the gym we feel our muscles sagging and gym suits bagging-or maybe both are tighter. Anyway, we stiffen when we see our schedules. Then everyone breaks up: some laughing at the Tea Room robotsg or having Greek banging their eardrums in the language labp or grasshoppers on the Biology lab floorg or caramel goo on apples and hands in the kitchenp or even a computer saying hello! Then maybe we're ready for a little extra change from the robots. fx. 1 'L NFRESHME of today are thoroughly modern l Nancy Anderson Elizabeth Anfang Patricia Barrett Barbara Bellomo Gwen Beranek Joan Bettenburg Rebecca Black Jane Boeser Susan Bolstad M. Skim 4 ss1-- p if ! . . Have Made It Alone Question? Answer. Discovery! They entered our lives through counseling each one of us separately, recognizing and encouraging individualism. They introduced a new modular scheduling system, help- ing us to help ourselves. They ioined us in our recreation, pitting themselves against the freshmen in volleyball. . Spending their free time, they helped us to plan, and par- ' ticipated in our clubs and activities. Developing our ideas of communication and its modern media, they brought us films, guest speakers, panels, proiects and retreats. They accompanied us, pushed us, raced us over the bridge of education on to discovery. ,K R Y' l SISTER M. MICHAELEEN GIBBONS Principal SISTER PAULETTE TALLY Attendance MR. I .',i 1 46 ' W i e V, N Of Prism - depth nd Color 4 'X 'YY' To be fully and uniquely alive is to live in the world of now, to live in a constant union with the world. There is more than the finite now, there is the eternal tomorrow to become a part of. And the promise of that tomorrow is realized in the striving and searching of today. In this same creative spirit of search and innovation, OLP has made this year a bridge, both to the school's own future and to the personal tomorrow of each student. The tone of the year, its hope and determination, was set by the Mass of the Holy Spirit. And with the initiation of Student Council, the students were enabled to present their views to OLP's first representative, all-school assembly. Speak- ers from all walks of life-actors, dancers, draft-resisters, models, scientists-helped both the students and the faculty to expand their knowledge of their world. Sparked by such introductions, OLP stepped out into that world, staging its own Campaign '68, complete with stand-ins for the national candidates. Intellectual expansion, too, was showcased in the televised presentation of the High School Bowl competi- tion. Second semester saw another important development, the initiation of modular scheduling, with its headaches, breaks, and fhopefullyl unsupervised studies. ln each aspect of student life, OLP has sought to grow to a new sun, to take up a new challenge, and to fulfill the promise of that eternal tomorrow. New Direction Contrary to student disbelief, the fourth floor pool really does exist. With the ending of summer, a new experience began. The Frosh came and heard about Goldifrosh and her three friends, Sophomore Bear, Jun- ior Bear, and Senior Bear. High school became a reality to them and life, they found, if truly lived, became more complicated. Every direction held a new dis- covery. Sophisticated upperclassmen took advantage of the naivete of the Frosh and told them of OLP's won- ders. Little did they realize that the legendary fourth floor pool had de- veloped into reality. Unbelieving stu- dents had only to climb the forbid- den steps to the tower to gaze at OLP's own natural swimming para- dise. Kathy McNellis and Theresa Ryan express the unbearable experiences of high school. l Seniors Mary B. Kennedy, Mary McKeown, Shelley Farrell, and Mary Kay Keis carry hosts, wine, and water in procession to the altar before celebration of the Mass of the Holy Spirit. Education is the celebration of freedom. With freedom in nature to worship and appreciate God, we celebrated the Mass of the Holy Spir- it on the mall. Sitting on the grass united through the sounds of the guitars, iets passing overhead, and street workers, we prayed for en- richment this year. Father Edmund Nightingale wasn't the only celebrant, there were some 887 celebrants, shining in the sun in the face of God. 49 'O . 'if ' 4' J . Student Council Student Council, in its tirst year at OLP, gave students the opportunity for self government. It included both an Executive Board and a General As- sembly made up of two delegates and an alternate from each homeroom and the club presidents. Meeting twice a month, it initiated several programs. Among these were the writing of letters to boys in Viet Nam, the Alexanders' Ragtime Band tor cleaning the tearoom, the Christ- mas food drive and two mixers. Student Council also supported such outside .activities as the Young Citi- zens for Educational Freedom CYCEFJ and the book drive for Project Aware- ness. Humphrey prevailed in the ensuing mock election with 545 to Nixon's 247, Wallace's 13, and Paulson's 19. The student historians directed Hum- phrey's campaign appeal to the common man: housewife, GI, Vietnamese, Indian, hippie. Nosing his way into the crowd, Nixon did momentarily immobilize the senior paper jet fighters with his plea for Law and Order. Pat lMcl Paulson also had his say on this with it's the issue, not the man, that counts. Only Wallace drew a mere ghost of approval when his sheeted klansmen appeared on the scene for their honest, 'simple' candidate. 52 fu Laurel And earty Bring Love to OLP Juniors Shiela Maley and Bill Carter reigned with Seniors Cindy Farrell and Dick Martens Queen of the Snows, Mary LaFond shared the spotlight on Valegram Day. lil Y, i ' ' .,,r KW . - h X., , E is M F Y?
