We ' re all captured on a car- ousel of time. We have the same classes every day along with the same holidays and functions every year. Time slips away quickly and quietly and more time comes to meet us. It changes us even if we don ' t want to be changed. Time passes slowly when we ' re bored and quickly when we ' re having fun. Everything depends on time. We can ' t return we can only look behind from where we came, and go ' round and ' round and ' round in the circle game. . School Day Classes! We take the same ones every day. Schedule wise the whole day is the same, we get up, go to homeroom, go to classes, eat lunch, go to classes, go home and study. It ' s one big circle. Sometimes we enjoy our classes and sometimes they just don ' t make it. We learn to take the bad days with the good. And the painted ponies go UP and DOWN. rtrr-r- The Spirit of Our Faith Is Found in Many Forms Religion classes at Our Lady of Grace are required for four years. Freshmen and sophomores take required courses, while juniors and seniors have the privilege of tak- ing elective courses each lasting nine weeks. New responsibilities were taken on by each religion class in planning such activities as respect-for-life month and friendship week, bringing the school closer together. Each class also took it upon themselves to plan a meaningful retreat. Talent Expressed In Music and Art Music and Art play major roles in the activities at Grace. Music appreciation, cho- rus, and private piano and voice lessons were taught by the talented members of the faculty, Sister Harriet, Miss Ellen Williams, and Miss Lynn Lineback. Art is offered as an elective for four years along with Art Appreciation for the freshmen. The gifted faculty member in this field is Sister Mary Lambert. Each student is given a chance to express her talent at recitals and picture displays in the Student Center. Social Studies β The Study of Reality and Why. Social Studies is one of the most important subjects in school. In both World and U.S. History we learned that not only good decisions had been made but also bad ones. Through Government and Economics, students learned ways to combat these wrong decisions and make this country a better place to live in. The three experts in these subjects were Father Kenneth Smith, World History; Mr. Michael Hilderb- rand, U.S. History; and Mrs. Kathi Martin, Government and Economics. Jane Eckhart represents the Econ class β it ' s FUN! History is made fun through the superb teaching of Mr Hilderbrand. World History students search for the country that they are studying. Language Classes Expand Horizons Moving from room to room in the language department at OLG is like taking a trip around the world. Latin, the basis for many languages, is offered and taught by Sister Valeria. Sister Marguerite, Sister Mary Beth, and Miss Mary Weust not only teach their students ' about the language, but continue with the study by having a French dinner. Sister Marguerite and Mrs. Martin further students ' knowledge in Spanish by planning a summer trip to Mexico for those interested. Sr. Marguerite expresses her love for foreign la. guages through teaching. Mary Stiegelmeyer, Susan Papesh and Magdale Arszman adjust French posters. English β A Very Important Language English, required at OLG for four years, focuses on a number of teachers. The English staff includes, Sister Jeanne, Sister Mary Cecile, Sister Emily, Sister Cleophas, Sister Marguerite, and Miss Antoineette Pangallo, all teaching a separate branch of English which offers the students a wider variety of courses, ranging from Creative Writing to Vocabulary. The Juniors and Seniors chose their own courses while the Freshmen and Sophomores got a good basis for future classes. Annette Magnant digs up some references fo one of those long assignments. Juniors attentively listen to their informati English teacher. Mr. Dave Geible enjoys being a guest speake this Shakespeare class. Sr. Jeanne proves that there ' s more to Speech class than talking. Sister Marietta and Miss Judy Gossman teaching Biology showed the students a new perspective of life. Both also taught Algebra I with Sister Marietta forging ahead with Algebra II and Trig. Mrs. Alice Meador and Mrs. Karen Stein proved to the students in the chemistry lab that the impossible equation they learned on one of their math classes really did have a use. Sophomores know geometry t perimeter, circumference . . . Kim Stanley ponders over another tough geome- try problem. Loretta Morgason reveals her true talent of dis- secting a grasshopper The Future Homemakers of America Cooking and sewing arc the first things thought of when Home Ec. is mentioned, but everyone knows it ' s not that easy. In cooking there is always clean-up and in sew ing the seam ripper becomes popular. All these things and more are a part of the class. Teas were planned for the teachers by the foods class and in sewing, garments were made and displayed in a fashion show. A combined class of interior design and family living helped many of the seniors plan ahead for the future. Judy Gebhardt, acting as hostess, pours the bev erage for her group. Judy Lenahan and this cute little d umpling model outfits made by Judy. Sister Marietta and Miss Gossman enjoy a tea planned by Foods III. Karen Short, Mrs. Vernon, and Cathy Zin display their candy house. Driver Ed Stresses Safety; Gym Builds Physical Stamina Driver Education and physical education are essential to today ' s living. Driver Education, which is taught by Mrs. Courtney Profit, prepares the inexperienced driver to handle and control the car. Also in the class, the importance of safety tech- niques are stressed. Physical Education, also taught by Mrs. Profit, gives OLG fresh- men and sophomores the chance to learn the techniques and gain the physical ability in various sports. Kathy Davis performs her knee drop on the trampoline for the class. Sophomores, Practicing with a birdie might have been a better idea. Members of Driver Ed. may be posing for their last picture School Year School starts in late summer, early fall. Halloween, Thanksgiving and Kris Kindles are found in the fall and early winter. The Holly and the Spaghetti Social are a part of winter and with the coming of spring comes Easter and graduation. And the seasons go round and round. Student Council Activities Kick Off the Year Student Council Inductions and Get Acquainted day were the first activities that the Council planned. Representatives as well as the officers pledged to accept the responsibilities of giving their best to the school and students during a ceremony at Mass. After church the student body separated into groups and planned skits to be presented at the end of the day. Sam Helmer is always there when you need her Mary Carr, as Sister Louise, aids Alice through Graceland. Mrs. O ' Brien, Sister Loui bring the gifts to the aJ Guaranteed to keep you plans their laughing skit Big Sisters and Little Sisters Find Never A Dull Moment! The year was both started and finished with a party joining the Big Sisters and Little Sisters. A Get Acquainted Parry was given by the Big sisters to help break the ice of a new school and new classmates. There were games played, a picnic served, songs sung and a free time to be with their new sisters. At the end of the year Freshmen said goodbye to their Big Sisters at the Auf Wiedersehn Party. Here pizza was eaten and gifts exchanged. Little Sisters wonder what the upcoming instruc- tions will be. Denise Calhoun and Carol Sparks eat a dinner fit for a queen. Little Sisters find that growing is easy with help from their Big Sisters. Candy Sale and Ad ' ' Drives the School to Success The entire student body got involved in this year ' s candy sale and ad drive. The seniors surprised everyone by winning the ad drive, while the total of the school ' s quota was 93.8%. Once again the school got involved in the candy sale with the jun- iors pushing ahead to exceed their goal. In the end the school reached 95% of its quota. Peggy O ' Connor and Patty Hillcrby find, a lot of candy has to be sold. Dance, Swing and Sing To the Music Two informal dances were found on the agenda for the 1973-74 school year. The Student Council-sponsored get acquainted dance not only brought students from all over, to dance to the music of Boss Tweed, but they also helped send c hildren from Sycamore II to Kings Island. The Sophomores Mardi Gras dance Sunshine broke the tradition of dancing to a band. They had Chuck Williams a d-j from WNAP come and play records and give out albums. Among the attendants were stop lights, cheerleaders, and most prominent of all, Miss Indiana 1918. There was a scariness in the air as everyone watched the movie with terror. At intermission apple cider and candy were served. The pumpkin carving contest, won by Laura Sanchez, seemed to be the highlight of the funfilled evening. Cindy Newman looks at her ! Payne, Janet Gumble, and Sherry Johnson show pumpkin carving talents. Raggedy Ann and Andy bring back childhood memories for all. The cosrume parade winners are Mrs. Martin, Pam Blanton, Sister Jeanne, Magdalen Arszman and Laura Sanchez. Christmas Came β Better Late Than Never! Due to the snow fall in December, the Christmas party was postponed and res- cheduled for the first week in January. The party, organized by the senior class, started the New Year off right. Gift exchanges took place among Big Sisters and Little Sisters, Christmas angels and their Kris Kindles, the faculty and Student Body. Although it came late, the Christmas spirit still stirred among the students. Rita Lime breathlessly looks at her sniffed bear and sweater. Beth Strange is caught by surprise decorating her Kris Kindle ' s locker. The best part of the party for the seni opening their presents. Tony Constantino agrees with her little fnend that it ' s only puppy love. An Evening for Just Me and My Daddy. One of the many planned activities of the Student Council Standing Committees was the annual father-daughter evening, which was held in March. The theme of the evening was titled Me and My Daddy. The evening began with daughters serving an informal dinner to their fathers, in the night club atmosphere made possible by the decorations. Entertainment was provided by talented fathers and daughters, and towards the end of the evening there was a sing along of old favorites. Cathy Zimmer and Magdalen Arszman decorate the candles for the evening. The fathers and daughters dance to the beat of Golden Oldies. Patsy Scollard and Marianne Heck act as wait- resses for their fathers. The talented Baldwin sisters dance to the r of Chicago Mothers and Daughters Agree You ' ve Come a Long Way Baby Dances and songs from 50 years gone by took mothers and daughters on a journey through the past. The entertainment brought out the theme, You ' ve Come a Long Way Baby. Although daughters performed the dances, the mothers showed their ability also with the bunny-hop and some modern dances. Refreshments consisted of pastries and punch. Joan Stahl gives a helping hand in serving the refreshments. Cantata Brings to All A Spirit of Christmas Carol of the Bells β Noel, Noel, the theme for the 1973 Cantata was directed by Sister Harriet and Miss Williams. Held in December, the show narrated by Susie Maley, brought out talents other than singing. Bongos, cymbals, and other percus- sions accompanied the chorus. Paula Baldwin, dancing to Laura Sanchez ' s violin, was another attraction. The Cantata wouldn ' t be complete without its soloists. This year ' s were Donna Theising, Jeannie Weddle, and Theresa Richart. Beth Guenin is discovered backstage checking out the malfunctioned lights. Jeannie Weddle sings the part of the hopeful mother in AMAHL. The AVE MARJA gets a new tone as the violi is played by Laura Sanchez. Paula Baldwin AVE MARJA Karen Short and Rita lime prepare for the night ' s performance. Sister Harriet plays the piano while Miss Wil- liams directs the chorus. The Holly berry Boll Adds Happiness to the Holiday Season The theme of the Hollyberry Ball, A Christmas Fantasy, required the pres- ence of Raggedy Ann. As she relaxed in her rocking chair, couples danced to the music of the Light Touch. To add to the holiday spirit decorated Christmas trees were placed by the fireplace in the center of the floor. The highlight of the evening took place when Sally Shanahan announced this year ' s queen, Judy Mat- tox, Rosemary Wyss, 1972 Holly Queen, had the honor of crowning her. Raggedy Ann brings back fantasies to Debbie Waymire and Tom McShane. The decorations added to the Fantasy mood of the Holly. Denise Lohman shows that dancing isn ' t the only enjoyment. Judy Mattox seems happy to be crowned the 1973 Holly Queen by Rory Wyss. Spaghetti Aroma Draws Folks of All Nationalities Although the blizzard on February 24 held some back, the Spaghetti Social was successful. Through the efforts of all, the net profit came to approximately $6,300 which will be used to move the an department to larger quarters. Workers and patrons alike had fun trying their luck at the variety of games in the gym, while others were enticed by the aroma of the spaghetti. Bo Carr supplies needed talents h of decorations. Mrs. Zimmer gazes appreciatively at the varied booths in the gym. Karen Denny and Janice Marcum happily volun r for this trashy job. Marianne Heck looks on while something fishy is happening. Sister Louise and Mrs. Sponsel add the magic touch to the meatballs. ' . 9 Student Appreciation Night Shows and Tells Talent Many new and different talents were found at Student Appreciation night. Not only was there singing but also swimming, dancing, puppets, and judo. Parents and friends enjoyed the performance while having refreshments made by the Home Ec students. Debbie Utterback, Georgianne Kempe, and Nancy Norris enjoy doing a pole dance. Puppets fight with the aid of Grace Walke Rory Wyss. A family watches and appreciates the students admirable talents. Carousel β Rounds Out The School Year With the combined efforts of Mr. Dave Geible, Sister Harriet Woehler, Miss Ellen Williams, Miss Nancy Johnson, Miss Nelda Warren and the cast and crew, this year ' s musical Carousel became an enjoyable experience. Everyone took an interest in this venture. Backdrops and props were made by the Art classes while cos- tumes were made by students in Home Ec classes. Time was devoted to lighting and stage crew by many willing volunteers. Miss Nelda Warren lights the way for lighting Patsy McMahon transforms Jim Hummel i Jigger Craigm. Couples danced while the Light Touch played many songs including the theme song, We May Never Pass This Way Again. The culmination of the night occurred when Mary Carr was crowned 1974 prom queen by Michele Hampton. Special memories will always be held by Susie Teipen and Charlie Wakelam. Gorillas Gritted Their Teeth And Did Better Improvement was the word for all of the Grace Gorillas. The football team started the year off right by tying the Ladywood Lizzards 0-0. The volleyball team also bettered their record by one game and although the basketball team won only three games it was better than the two won in the previous year. The tennis team also showed a marked improvement by winning one game. All in all it was a good year for the new IHSAA members. The club was reorganized by Mrs. Kathi Martin and Sister Marguerite. During the Christmas season the club held a Christmas party. The girls decided to dress up for the occasion. They dined with Spanish food that they had prepared themselves. After the dinner the Fiesta continued with games such as the tradi- tional Spanish pinata. Georgianne Kempe and Sister Marguerite hang the pinata for the party. Nancy McShanc and Mary Beth Sponsel prop erly set the table for dinner. Judy Lenahan intently watches Cathy Bowling she helps serve dinner. Drama Club Peaks Behind the Scene This year ' s Drama Club was small in body but big in deed. Although there were no performances, members occupied their time with the other aspects of drama. The club learned about make-up, lighting and props. The day began with a Mass concelebrated by Father James Bonke, Father Kenneth Smith and Father Anton Braun. A breakfast for the graduates and guests preceded the Baccalaureate where the class will and prophecy were read. Commence- ment began at 8 p.m. with the singing of the class song. After the addresses were made and the diplomas presented, the graduates said the final farewells to friends. RECORDS Faculty, srudents, officers, teams, organizations, and maintenance make Our Lady of Grace what it is today. Each year different people do different things and they never can come back and do that same thing again. We can ' t return, we can only look behind from where we came.
