ifie the spirit that make F zz ufiuuc The fate of this year's basketball team was decided the day the members of the team together with their competent captain was announced. It is impossible to estimate accurately the value of each individual con- nected with the team. Suflice it to say that the co-oper- ation of the members of the team with their coach, Miss Carol Maurer, and their faithful adviser, Sister Helen Matthew, together with their spiritual director, Father Boland, made this a banner year for the girls, basketball team of 1957. FN. 5' .,., 4 NE-..4w Though the first home game was a win, the first away game proved an upset. Our star-studded team would not resign themselves to defeat. Late afternoon found them devising new plays and revising old ones. Guards changed their positions and became forwards and felt that all was fair in love and basketball. The true school spirit which was enkindled in the hearts of the Valleyites many years ago has grown in momentum as we continue to FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT! for old Valley High. Student support plays a vital role in the winning of any game. The-se students are eager to sec their team win.

Baseball here at the Valley pro- vided the necessary relaxation and common ground on which all could meet and become acquainted. Whether the student actually was represented on his varsity team, or simply engaged in intramural competition, or merely cheered his more muscular and skilled mates, he is benefiting from sports. The mighty baseball nine played its schedule with fine results and wherever the batmen performed there also went a group of loyal male and female rooters who cheered lustily whether the Knights scored or not. Win or lose, it was a great year-great for the players who were excellent sports, great for the fans who sang HFightI Fight! Fight! for the home team with a loyalty that defies duplication. Here we see the members of last year's team posing with many of the sluggers of this year's team. Due to the lateness of the season, it is impossible to be able to get the candid shots of the current team.
