Congratulations are in order as varsity debaters, Carolyn Tushis, Katie Moran, Mary jo Kohn, and Virginia Stewart, return to school and report another victory to Sister Mary Madonna. Dcbatcrs Brin g Home Awards Coached by Sister Mary Madonna, OLM de- baters participated in the State League and Thomas More Forum. They attained an ex- tensive knowledge of world affairs as they ar- gued in confirmation or rejection of this year's debate topic, Resolved: That the United Nations Should Be Significantly Strengthened. Underclass debaters, Mary Ann Stella, Kathy Smart, Kathy McElman, and Paula Francis, get together during a research-and-discussion session in preparation for an approaching debate. As Dan Stella debunks affirmative arguments, Carolyn Tushis and Bemadette Zirncosky listen attentively to marshall rebuttal points. 44

Adept at playing the piano, organ, violin and clarinet, Sister Mary Huberta is engaged in instructing aspiring musicians. A last minute practice gives Christina Brown a chance to polish up her performance while Paula Francis, Germaine Garrett, Christy Weglarz, and Judy Sallott await their tum at the piano. The Senior Chorale, conducted by Sister Mary Protase, practices for its part in the Christmas cantata. 43

Language--Key to Friendship Panel discussions, symposiums, and formal speeches are an integral part of the Speech Arts Club. Affiliated with the National Catholic Theater Conference, members are given special rates to local productions and the opportunity to attend the New York summer convention. Supplementing the advanced language classes, the French and Latin clubs serve as a means of exploring the social and cultural aspects of other nations. 1 's' Latin club officers turned mythological gods and goddesses.
