Physical Education Promotes Teamwork The shrill blast of Mrs. Sumrill's whistle sounds as Mercians engage in lively games of newcomb, volley ball, basketball, and baseball. These competitive sports, as well as swimming and riding classes which may be substituted for weekly gym periods, assure students of a well- rounded and wholesome personality. Scholastic Atmosphere Produces Scholars A quiet atmosphere and accessible reference material are essential to the conscientious stu- dent. Mercy's study halls and well-stocked li- brary afford these helps to those whose search for knowledge requires additional research and study time. Mature reading and attentive listening coupled with frequent reference to a dictionary assures Shiela DeLozier of a rich and effective vocabulary. The daily chore of checking attendance records is assumed by Mrs. Starr as she supervises study halls.
