The will to succeed in scholastic undertakings urges Mercians to maintain this high caliber. Making use of opportunities offered under the capable guidance of the faculty, each girl is eligible for the greatest honor of all -- that of pleasing God. Hard work is rewarded. The Honor Roll is the reward for work done, and provides an incentive to try even harder. Scholastic reward for hard work done, and provides an incentive to try even harder. Scho- lastic achievement is a requirement for the greatest honor bestowed by O.L.M. - that of admission to the National Honor Society. Retrecit . . . . . . plays an important part in the spiritual life of every Mercian. This year for the first time, fifty Seniors had the oppor- tunity of making a closed retreat at the Convent of Mary Repara- trix. Here retreatants began the day with Mass and Holy Com- munion followed by conferences and visits to the Blessed Sacra- ment Free time was spent in rooms or in the chapel for spiritual reading or meditation The final day of the retreat was very special for every girl because of a program in honor of Our Lady Queen of all hearts To Seniors who would soon make their own way in the world this retreat meant a great deal It was an enlightening experience always to be remembered During the week of January 28th other members of the student body gained the benefits of an open retreat Both retreats were conducted by the Reverend Father Walter Kaelin C P OLM s chapel Mal Q-'J if Between conferences Barbara Ewald and Nancy Hart found time to say the Statlons of the Cross In
