,. ' 'V r-'7'i'1f '?K Il' V, 'lf We celebrated the l25th Anniversary i050 Mother Catherine Mc Auley, foundress of the Congregation of the Religious Sisters of Mercy. December l2, l956, we reioiced with the Sisters of Mercy throughout the world, on the 125th anniversary of their found- ing in Dublin, ireland, by Mother Mary Catherine McAuley. The long record of service of the Sisters in almost every country of the world is a lasting monument to that first group of consecra- ted women. Solemn High Mass offered by Reverend Father Thomas Bres- nahan in the presence of His Eminence Edward Cardinal Mooney, Archbishop of Detroit, opened the day's festivities. The Seniors, eager to help the Sisters enioy their anniver- sary to the fullest, served them a full course steak dinner. In the evening, a completely student written and directed program was presented in the gym. The entertainment included a parody on 'Twas the Night Before Christmas , an enioyable scene in a Classroom , and a play about the life of Mother Mary Cather- ine McAuley. For the Sisters, it was the perfect end to a perfect day. Edward Cardinal Mooney, accompa- nied by his attendants, Msgr. McPhillips, Rev. Fr. Boniface Lucci, O.S.B., Roger Steel, trainbearer, and Rev. Fr. Clement Esper, is shown as the procession leaves school for McAuley Auditorium for the celebration of a Solemn High Mass. C Did your mother come from lreland? These words, referring to Mother Catherine McAuley, introduced the sermon of the Foundation Day Mass delivered by Father Albert M. Huttin
