E This year, more so than in others, the 1944 Academian has more significance, for already six of our Alumni who once roamed the halls of Shady Side have given their lives for their country. Their sacrifice and unselfish devotion to duty should be an inspiraf tion to those who now learn at the same desks once occupied by these men. Now, more than ever your loyalty must be pledged to the building up of sound school traditions, so that future genera' tions will be proud to call Shady Side Academy their Alma Mater. The class of january, 1944 is now scattered in various branches of the armed forces. God grant that soon peace will be restored to the land, so that boys throughout the nation can once more plan ahead, not to enter an army or navy, but to lead a normal happy life. E
