Varsity bounces into success Whenever students went to a varsity basketball game, they were in for ex- citement. The Laker squad played action packed basketball every quarter of every game down to the last minute of the game. Each member of the team strived to play to the best of his ability. They were smooth and in control, taking charge and sinking each shot with poise. Not only did they have overwhelming talent on offense, but defense was stressed by Coach Boyd as the key to success. Therefore, they were perfectionists on de- fense also. The Lakers ended a successful season with a second place finish in the tough Catholic League. I.V. team dunks opponents Those people who came to the Varsity games just in time to miss the Iunior Varsity, also miss- ed 'out on an opportunity to see an outstanding team play ball. Along with the great '79 team, this team is also one of Lakes' finest. Mr. Sioma was quick to point out their fine sportsmanship and overwhelming team unity. Leading the team with their sportsmanship and shooting ability were juniors Tony Rana and Bud Holla- day, and sophomore Ioe McMahon. It was clearly visible at their games that they were a team. Mr. Sioma made sure everyone played by switching players constantly. They all played to their fullest ability, sinking shot after shot, and dominating opponent after op- ponent. Cheers from the crowd led them on to victories. Chants, songs, and words of wisdom lifted spirits and boosted excitement. Al3OVE RIGHT: Hollywood Boe skies over opponent to win pump.
