I I I Victory over St. Hedwig makes ho It wasn't a typical Homecoming game day as the Lakers came out at halftime with a six point deficit. But despite the cold brisk weather, the Laker's astounded the Knight's with their willpower and spirit, racking up 16 points in the second half. It was too much competi- tion for the Knights to overcome, as they fell victims to yet another Laker victory. The halftime showed Laker enthusiasm and spirit with the introduction of our homecoming Queen, Iulie Kulick, accompanied by her court, Lynn Boyd, Rhonda Councilor, and Tammy Boyea. The King, Mike McMahon, and his court, Lynn Hensel, Kevin Oliver, and Dave Pasterz, couldn't participate in the parade because they were busy beating their opponent. Everyone at the game felt this was the best Homecom- ing Lakes has ever had. TOP: Homecoming queen Iulie Kulick smiles for the crowd as she circles the track. l Lakers at the Silverdome The Lakers entered the Silverdome knowing they were about to face the tough Detroit Benedictine football team for the Prep Bowl ti- tle. The first half of the game did not turn out too well as Benedictine held a 14-0 lead. However, the Ravens were not prepared for the strong Laker second effort, as the tough Laker 4 offense came back to tie the game 14-14 at the end of regulation time, sending the contest into overtime. The Lakers scored first on a 22 yard field goal to take a 17-14 lead, and ft seemed that the Lakers would pull off another upset. The Ravens, however, managed to penetrate the tough Laker defense on a fourth and one from the one yard line to win. Last yearys football team was called The Team of Destiny, so it seems a fitting nickname to call this year's squad, The Team of Pride.
