In gratitude . . . In admiration . . . In devotion . . . We dedicate the l960 AMARANTH to those who teach us in the gentle, ad- monishing, yet joyful way of St. Francis. Reflection is o mirror's sole purpose, AlThough H can por- Troy The living and The soulful, a mirror is sTill inanimate and lifeless. it does noT reToin, consider, or act in The weight of iTs refleciions, lT merely exisTs. Mon, however, while reflecting his environment, is also in- fluenced by H. His morals, decisions, and his goals are dependenT upon The sTondords absorbed from his environ- menT. The level of his environmenT dicToTes The level of his sTondards. But There are various levels ranging from boseness To per- fecTion. Mon hos olways been looking for 0 star To hang his hoT on - he has always reached for The heighTsi He has always sTriven for perfec'rion - The unGTfoinoble. IT is confusing To Try To define perfection. To seme H de- picTs limiTless TolenT. To oThers, personal fosTidiousness. STill oThers define perfecTion in Terms of sTounch virTues. But Those who have Tried To grasp perfection wiTh purposes of self-soTisfocTion and beTTermenT hove foiled. PerfecTion is oTTaincuble only in God-likeness. A simple example of perfection - The neoresT we have on eorTh e is found in The life of Saint Francis of Assisi. He realized ThoT perfection is noT concerned wiTh material possessions nor with personal aTTribuTes. IT resTs only in compleTe resignoTion of our will To God. Soinf Francis lived in compleTe poverTy, complete chosTiTy, compleTe resigna- Tion - in compleTe cmd perfect ioy. He found The unoTToinoble; and in doing so, ioy. The orders of Saint Francis have OdopTed his principles and have dedi- coTed Their lives To compleTe resignation in perfect joy. Our own SisTers of SoinT Francis are living his simple rule and rodio'ring Their joy To all of us. They have fought us The way of SoinT Francis and The way To heaven.
