AMA ANTH mamnth Amaranth? Why Amaranth? There is fascination both in the amaranth plant and in its very name. The amaranth is a classic flower of lance-shaped leaves, green and purple, bearing close clustered crimson flowers. To sainted Clement of Alexandria, to sage Milton, to nature-loving Wordsworth, to clever Pope, to devout Cow- per, to poets learned and religious the amaranth was a flower symbolic of immortality, an emblem of the unfading, the everlasting, the ever-to-be-remembered. To us the amaranth is all this and more. The close packed blossoms are for us re- minders of the unity, loyalty, and harmonious class spirit that prevailed among us, and their color is the cheer that brightens and beautifies life. Because of all this, is it surprising that our year book is to us an amaranth? Treasuring as we do the friendships of our classmates, the memories of our school days, the associa- tions with our teachers, our activities, our achievements, and our endeavors, we would bind them all in everlasting remem- brance.
