i m We, the Class of 1982, wish to dedicate our Yearbook to our Parents. They have done so very much for us; given us their love, time, support and concern. Together we have shared many moments - moments which shall live in our hearts forever. To show our gratitude we dedicate this yearbook to them. Today man’s problem is that he has not placed the prime value on life, the most important gift we have, more impor¬ tant than knowledge, science, technology, and progress. False values tear man apart. He becomes part of a structure that sees production and material success as the prime pur¬ pose of life. Thus man himself takes on the features of a machine. But there is more to life than work and success. Man is meant to live life fully. Christ told us: “I have come that men may have life and may have it in all fullness” (John 10 : 10 ) See in the common acts of man — his work, his play, his love, his prayer - a profound unity. Note that the greatest reality in the world is the spirit of man. And this spirit is the same in the rich and the poor, the educated and the not so educated, the White and the Black, the Asian, African, Euro¬ pean, and the American. The twin event - Adoption Day- which followed shortly compelled us to a new awareness of the roots of our lives in Academy fellowship. Our Christmas Program and Arbor Day togetherness in our sophomore year awakened in us new depths of life and reality in others and with others. 35 Ring Day strengthened our bond of Big Sister-Relationship and deepened our very own spirit of friendship. And we began firmly to believe and accept the Scripture message: “He who has found a friend, found a treasure”. God be praised for our Junior Year Experiences of friendship and togetherness that consummat¬ ed in a Field Day Project when we reached out to our neighboring Child Care Center and invited the “Little Ones” to join us on our Academy campus for a day of hotdogs, hamburgers, potato chips, and games. MEMORIES s Class Night June 4, 1982 Class Night ’82 commenced with the entrance of the graduating class, followed by the singing of the National Anthem. Kathy Shea delivered the Salutatory speech and the student body harmonized the school song “Pep”. “. . . As we venture forth in the fulfillment of our goals, we shall carry with us our treasured memories and feelings of security with which OLA has gifted us. We experience a type of kinship everytime we become present to OLA students of the past. Tradition is feeling - tradition is caring - tradition is the principle kept alive by our caring faculty.” Co-salutatorian Sue Wlazlo introduced the speaker, Vivian Stephenson, Catholic Transcript Editor. 78 “First of all, aim high. Set goals for yourself. Sec¬ ondly, be strong in your beliefs. Don’t settle for choices that compromise those beliefs. Lastly, be con¬ stant in your Christian committment, and make sure the Lord is on your planning committee.” Vivian Stephenson Principal Sister Dulcine Bartosiak presented awards to seniors and underclassmen. Marietta Rogers, Valedictorian, received a $400. scholarship from the Auxiliary Committee of Johnson Memorial Hospital. Salutatorian Kathleen Shea received a $100 award for outstanding scholastic achievement from the Lions Club of Enfield, given in the name of Pelligrino A. Reveruzzi. Co- Salutatorian Susan Wlazlo won the Evelyn Sheridan Memorial Graduation Award of $75 from the National Association of Letter Carriers for academic achievement. The OLA Alumnae Associ¬ ation’s first annual scholarship was won by Susan Ayers. Helen Moriarty received a certificate and $30 from the Robert H. Haley family recognizing outstanding effort. The Mount Carmel Society of Enfield gave its school spirit and good citizenship award of $25 to Jacqueline Dumoulin. The OLA Guild donated $300 in scholastic awards. Marietta Rogers received a $100; Elizabeth Horr, Dawn Wascholl, Kelly Ryan, and Rachelle Jenkins all received $50. 79 Gina Camerota presented the class gift of a stereo system receiver to Sister Dulcine. Guild President, Mr. Joseph Becker, then distributed gifts to each graduate- a key chain engraved with OLA Academy 1982 graduate. LWVJ After the traditional singing of the song “Today” by the entire student body, Marietta Rogers delivered the valedictory address. “The future holds inumerable possibilities, and many times it will be difficult to make the right decisions. It will be during these times, that our high school experiences will help us to make the best choices. So let us look ahead to the future with bright and hopeful eyes, always keeping in mind the memories and experiences which have brought us through out high school years. These experiences have changed us, and they will prove to be an important factor in shaping our lives. Even though these past four years have only been a small part of our lives, we will need to reflect on them as we continue to travel down the road of life.” Beth Horr prefaced the passing on of the Daisy Chain with a brief explanation of this tradition. “This special tradition is our last and perhaps the most beautiful of those at the Academy, the tradition of passing on the Daisy Chain. The Daisy Chain itself is delicate display of flowers held together by ribbon, unbroken and continuous. Its continuity symbolizes the unity which binds the past, present, and future together We hope it will be accepted with dignity and respect, for the chain itself is fragile and should not be broken.” 80 Graduation June 6, 1982 On Sunday the Seniors met in the auditorium before proceeding to the chapel. The rain that had begun before the Class Night Exercises on Friday continued to pour, but did not succeed to dampen the Seniors’ spirits. The Graduation Liturgy was celebrated by Reverend Robert Ricciardi, who also delivered the homily. In his remarks, Father emphasized the pride the graduates had instilled in their parents by virtue of their successful completion of OLA’s program. After Communion, Sister Dulcine Bartosiak, principal, presented diplomas to the members of the Class of 1982. The Class once again rendered their class song. Because of the rain, the auditorium echoed strains of “Today,” the traditional OLA farewell. DRAMATIC MOMENT Offertory Procession PRAYERFUL MOMENT “Lord assist us on our journey of life.” FRIENDLY MOMENT The handshake of peace Graduation Stay with us, Lord Jesus As we leave the portals of O.L.A., And be our companion on our way To set our hearts on fire with new hope. New tasks, and new visions. Remind us of your presence at O.L.A. In the chapel or on the campus. In the classes, labs, library or gym; When we were creating friendship Or when we were nurturing and deepening it. Fulfilling our needs, living out tradition. Helps us to recognize your ubiquitous presence In the scriptures we will read. In the bread we will break. In the people we will meet. In the events that will happen As we pass from milestone to milestone Stay with us, Lord Jesus. Patrons Benefactors Chester’s Market S. Camerota Sons Inc.
