Highlighting every school year at O.P.H.S. the annual Homecoming festivities are characteris- tic of the enthusiasm and school spirit of the student body and alumni. Homecoming Day 1959, began with a student assembly at which the court was presented to the school and the identity of the queen reveal- ed. The girls chosen by the football squad waited anxiously as the head football coach, Bob Ellen, stood on stage to make the awaited announce- ment. Many ooh's and ah's were exclaimed as Coach Ellen acknowledged Bonnie Corcler as Homecoming Queen and Sandra Vigg as Maid of Honor. The radiant queen and her court were en- tertained with skits and music, and a spirited pep rally concluded the assembly. A parade through the streets of Monroe in the afternoon gave viewers much pleasure as they saw the beautifully decorated floats and cars. Holliman, now in his sixteenth season as Lion basketball mentor, com- piled a record of TO wins and T4 losses. The Johnny-come-lately Lions waited until the last few weeks of the season before showing their potential, culminating the i959-'60 season by crossing over the bridge to victory against their arch-rival the West Monroe Rebels. The Lion five finished fourth in district coma petition and won second place in tournaments at Neville and Bonita. Bearing the brunt of the Lions' attack this seal son were Harry Crowe, Bobby Hendrix, Carl Guinn, Bobby Massingill, and Don Long. ?
